I played with a band a few years ago and had to learn some country tunes but they were more upbeat things like Wagon Wheel and Boot Scooting Boogie. They were fun to play, especially with a twangy Tele.
Open your mind, it’s all music and it’s all good!

It's starting to look like the band's taking shape. We're practicing Tuesday afternoon with the first singer/guitar player. I'm a little bit disappointed with the song-list he submitted because it's fairly hardcore blues....Stuff like Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Bo Didley and B.B. King. He says he's open to try other kinds of music, so maybe there's hope. We have a Saturday afternoon rehearsal with the second guy who's a singer/rhythm guitarist/harpist/keyboard player. The list he provided is somewhat closer to my taste...a certain amount of classic rock such as Van Morrison, Elvis, Johnny Rivers, and Bob Seger, but there's also some country stuff that I'm only lukewarm about. I guess it stands to reason that a person's not going to be wild about everything a band plays, so I'm trying keep an open mind. However, I find blues tends to all sound the same and very predictable, and slow country almost puts me to sleep. I guess we'll just have to see how it goes. I had a conversation earlier today with a guy I played in a band with briefly a couple of years back. He's a great guitarist and really above average singer and I'd have played with him indefinitely, but ended up being replaced because he said I "had no chemistry with the drummer". I did a booking with him this past summer which went quite well. He's busy trying to put together a four piece right now, but is already getting signals that some of the people may be less than committed, and he asked me to keep him in the back of my mind if these other players we're trying don't work out. I guess, if anything, I'm encouraged that after such a long stretch when nobody wanted to get together during the virus, it's finally looking like things are starting to happen again. In the meantime, I guess I've got a few songs to learn before Saturday rehearsal. I can fake the blues without any trouble, but some of the country songs that I've never even heard before with be more challenging. I wonder if they will throw Devil Went Down to Georgia at you. That will keep your fingers busy!

I was beginning to feel complacent because the band thing was coming together so smoothly. I spent an hour this morning packing all my gear and then making that arduous trip five times with heavy gear from an upper floor apartment to my car at the far end of the parking lot. I had just finished when I got an email from our new prospective guitar player saying that because of an unexpected work commitment, he was going to stand us up. I guess I understand that sometimes shit happens, but he was the one that chose the time out of several possibilities. At the moment, I'm seni-pxssed off and feeling some regret that I was the one who put his name forward to the band. And now, I get to makes five more trips to the car to unload all my gear again. This day hasn't started well.

This day hasn't started well. That really sucks! Do you have a storage unit where you can keep some of your stuff so that it’s closer to your car? Or possibly invest in a dolly/cart. I keep a lot of my stuff in my garage so that I don’t have to do much stair climbing….my knees are telling me that I’m getting old. I also have a platform cart that I use like the one below. However I bought it on sale for about $30 a few years ago www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/olympia-pack-n-roll-platform-cart-330-lb-0600503p.html?_br_psugg_q=platform+cart

I wasn't even able to get a storage unit on my floor....The only one available is one floor up from me. I don't see anyway to avoid packing gear, but I think I've found a way to have to pack less.....I found a Peavey 300 Series head on Facebook Marketplace for 100.00, and I just messaged the guy that I want it and I'll e-transfer the money now to secure the deal. It's in Port Alberni, which means 150 mile round trip, but that's not a big deal in a car like mine. I'm going to leave my Sound Source cabinet with 15" JBL, the Peavey 300 Series head, and mike and stand at the practice location, so I should be able to just carry a bass back and forth to practice. Having just spent big bucks on new tubes for the Twin Reverb, it'll be worth it just to avoid the bumping and potential for damage to my new power tubes

I’ve done the same, small combo amp and a small PA (even smaller with the Bose L1)
