Well today was a mixed bag. In trying to get my lunch and dinner ready before the gig while packing one car for the gig and the other for the trip, I was obviously overwhelmed. I arrived to the gig realizing that I left my head Amp at home. As you can imagine I might as well not have been there. By some stroke of luck the drummer showed up unexpectedly (?) so the fog wasn't as thin sounding as I would have feared. It was so embarrassing it was mortifying but the venue liked the horns and drums. Drove down to Virginia without incident, but when I got here I realized I'd forgotten my jacket and numerous other things at home. Looks like I will be going shopping tomorrow... I forgot our lights one time and after that I made a checklist of things that I need to bring and I check them all off as I'm packing it all up. I believe Mr Reardon does the same thing. You may want to try it yourself.

The day just took a nosedive. We just received a text this morning that our nieces son was stabbed 3 times and his friend was stabbed 4 times last night when a group of kids confronted them in a nearby park and demanded his friends running shoes. The two them both collect limited edition running shoes that can be worth hundreds of dollars and they usually sell them on eBay for a tidy profit. Anyway, they demanded his friends shoes and when he refused to give them up they attacked him and one of the guys stabbed him with a pocket knife. When our nephew stepped in to help his buddy, he was stabbed in the upper chest. They both went to the hospital and although the buddy was treated and released, our nephew had to spend the night and needs to have some more X-rays and tests this morning as one of the wounds may have punctured his lung. My SIL just called us and filled us in with the story. Nephew seems to think that one of the thugs goes to his school so I’m sure they’ll be looking at class photos. This f**king world is just going to hell. Our niece didn’t need this on her mind now. As some of you may recall from previous posts, her son spent a month in the hospital last summer after exercising himself almost to the point of damaging his heart. The doctors wouldnt let him go home until his heart rate stayed above 40 bpm for 24 hours straight and they got his blood pressure up to safe levels. We ended up taking all his weightlifting equipment to our house until the doctors told him that he was able to resume his workouts (at a reduced level). He’s been fine ever since. Then this shit happens. Hopefully there’s no puncture in his lung. 🙏🙏🙏 Good lord what an awful thing to happen- hope he's doing okay The good news is that he is fine and was released this afternoon. However it's taken a toll on him mentally. Our niece came over tonight and chatted with us for a while...she only lives a few blocks away and we are her "closest" relatives distance wise when she needs someone to talk to. She said that he was pretty shaken up and is still in a little shock. The funny thing is that due to some Facebook networking, the shoes have been found and returned and the cops are now following up on some leads.

Back in the late 70s, I was on a pub crawl with 3 of my RAF colleagues, to celebrate one of them leaving my section. While walking back to the camp, some motorbikes went past and I happened to look across at them. They just carried on, to wherever they were going.
A few minutes later I felt a kick up my behind and something swipe my right arm. I turned around and there was this bloke standing with his legs apart and what appeared to be a huge knife in each hand, shouting 'Come on then'. Being really brave I shouted to my colleagues (2 female & 1 male) 'run'. We were coming up to another pub so I ran in and shouted 'get the police'. They actually arrived within a few minutes, having been on patrol in the area. As they came in I approached them and they pushed me to the floor. Luckily the landlord said 'He's the victim'.
They then asked me what happened and I explained and described the attacker, who was wearing one of those pork pie hats. They told me to report to the local police station the next day and they went after the bloke.
They did catch him and he had a fight with the police, using his knives, which were actually sharpened industrial hacksaw blades. The 'swipe' on my arm was one of the blades hitting me. Luckily it only sliced a bit of the leather bomber jacket I was wearing.
At the police station the next day, I had to have photos taken of my 'injuries'. The worst was a large bruise on my bum. The arm was ok. They demonstrated how sharp the blades were by slicing through a piece of A4 paper.
The bloke was charged with the more serious crime of resisting arrest and attacking the police. I had to attend the court and he got 3 years jail.
Anyway, it took me months before I could walk down a street again, especially with people walking behind me. In court the bloke said he would find me when he got out, but thankfully nothing happened.

Luckily this all worked out because I told the trombone player to play chord tones behind the soloists and the drummer covered the beat but this would have been disastrous if it had been a higher profile gig. I did play the guitar but literally nobody heard me

Wow! That’s pretty scary! In Nathan’s case, the one guy started pushing the one with the shoes and when he resisted, the attacker started stabbing him. Nathan saw this, grabbed the guy, pulled him off of his friend and punched him in the face. At that point, all 4 attackers jumped on him, and he ended up getting stabbed.

Don't like to think too much, it makes me think too much, It keeps my mind on my mind Don't wanna see too much, it makes me see to much Sometimes I'd rather be blind
All the things that they're saying & doing When they pass me by just fills me up with noise It overloads me I wanna disconnected myself Pull my brain stem out and unplug myself I want nothing right now, I want to pull it out
Yeah, I want to pull it out, yeah I wanna break it all down, hey, I wanna pull it out Yeah, yeah, disconnect myself, disconnect myself I wanna see it go down, yeah, disconnect myself
A thousand miles an hour going nowhere fast Clinging to the details of your past Talking 'bout your damages and your wasting my time Wanna be the king of pain, stand in line All the numbers and the colours and the facts Backed by the rumours and the figures and the stats I think I'm gonna download my mind
Too damn bad if at the end of the day the only thoughts In your brain are all the things that they say, what a waste Too damn bad if at the end of the line you got no idea What's on your own mind, you got no one to blame but yourself Too much to know, too much to see It might mean something to you but it's nothing to me Its just another ad for someone's version of how they think it should be
I wanna disconnect myself, pull my brain stem out, and unplug myself I want nothing right now, I want to pull it out

Didn’t do a hell of a lot today… made breakfast for everyone, tidied up the garage a bit (waiting for a nice day and I’m gonna really clean it out), and then I cleaned up the old BBQ grill a bit. I’m gonna try to sell it for a few bucks to pay for a cover for the new one. Still using the old one for the time being as I’m asking Napoleon (the grill manufacturer) for an extra rear panel that totally encloses the back of the grill cart. It comes standard on the next level and I’d like to have it to prevent animals from taking up residence in the cart.

Last night's band practice was a bust....Got home late and skipped laundry this morning so I could sleep in. Spent my day doing housework, putting away equipment from last night, and integrating the new speaker enclosure. I have another prospective buyer coming tonight to look at my PA system.

What’s funny is that a couple of guys from our engineering office went to work in the Knoxville plant and within a year, they were just as laid back.

Hung a bunch of pictures in our daughters room this morning. Being an engineer, I’m anal when it comes to measuring things up to determine where to put the nails so that things are exact. My wife on the other hand just throws things up where she feels.

Stopped at Benton's Country Ham store to pick up a few things, meet the owner and got to talking with the guys there. Then unexpectedly they gave us a tour of the place! Very interesting, actually how they cure the meats and let they dry. Then we drove the dragon road which is very famous and went for lunch. Just sitting at home now

A fairly quiet day today. I spent a couple of hours doing coffee with a friend downtown and then did a fast grocery shop. I talked to Long & McQuade about getting a case for the new guitar.....Thought this might be one of those rare times when I'd have the case before the guitar arrived. However, I hadn't counted on CP Rail being on strike. Long & McQuade tells me that's how all their stock from back east gets here, and because of the rail strike they can't make any promises about how long it'd be....Unless I want to pay the freight to have it couriered from Ontario. That's not going to happen, so I guess I get to hurry up and wait. It's occurred to me that if I was stuck, I have a nice, near-new case for my Fender F65 acoustic that I could use in a pinch with some rolled up towels to pad around the sides of the body. I doubt that'll be an issue though. I asked the local luthier about getting him to finesse the setup once the guitar arrived. I expected him to offer me some sort of deal because I had given him all my guitar parts, supplies and tools when I had to downsize, moving out of my last place. However, he quoted me 70.00 for a basic setup plus the cost of strings, or 150.00 if the frets need a level and crown. So, that's probably not gonna happen.....

My tracking number makes it look like my guitar might be here Thursday. Other good news - The CP rail strike was settled this morning, so it looks like it shouldn't be a problem to get the case from Long&McQuade. I think I'll wait till I have the guitar in my hands to order it. A quiet day for me today. I placed one more ad on Facebook Marketplace....I have one extra bass case to sell, and if it goes, it'll pay for half of the new case.

I’ve got a meeting with my financial advisor tomorrow so today I’m going to work on my income tax to see how I faired this past year. I did a rough run through and it appears that my wife and I are getting money back. Hopefully my FA will know some other money saving tips and turn my mediocre return into a Long and McQuade shopping spree!
