Picked up my PRS this morning and played it for a good hour and a bit when I got home. Geez it plays beautifully! The frets are nicely polished and the intonation is spot on. Feels and sounds so nice. While I was there I also saw an Alesis SR-16 drum machine in the used section for about 40% off the regular price. Still in original box with all original packaging, plastic bag etc, basically looked brand new. So I asked them to hold it for me for a couple of days while I read up on it. I want to start playing some legions with my keyboard and bass player, as a trio, using a drum machine. More money for the guys who do the work, more room on stage and more control over the volume! So after I read up on it, if I buy it, I’ll still have 30 days to try it out and decide if I want to keep it.

Mostly a slow day so far--which is fine by me.
I did consider going to a music store., but my gear fund is currently not in good shape--unless I'm buying picks or strings.
Plan on trying out my ne beard trimmer later. The battery on the old one is wearing out & doesn't give full power--so it doesn't work so well.
(I don't like corded ones as the cord gets in the way--yes I have one before--so rechargeable it is for me)

The legions up here in Canada or at least in Ontario tend to have dances on weekends, usually on Friday or Saturday nights. I just go and ask whoever is in charge of running the dances if they need a band. I mention that we’ve been playing at other local legions and that they can call them for references.

I’ve got a few chores to do around the house today and later this afternoon, I plan on watching the outdoor NHL Heritage Classic hockey game being played here in Hamilton. I would have liked to have gone with my son but tickets sold out pretty quick and besides, I’d have to give my left testicle to be able to afford one.

A couple milestone days this weekend. Yesterday my son played his 600th gig and today's gig will be his 100th library show. Today's show is kind of far/ out of state so we'll be on the road for quite awhile

Maybe the personal connection is the way to go I tried emailing too. I think it’s best that they see who they are dealing with. The “Legion crowd” is a more mature group, maybe 45-75+ years of age. As a 65 yr old, they can see I’m a more mature person (although my wife would beg to differ). The first gig I ever played at a legion, we played a few country songs but were basically playing classic rock and rock and roll from the 60s and 70s. Then an older couple asked us to play a waltz for their anniversary. Luckily, me, the bass player and keyboard player all came from wedding bands and we proceeded to play the anniversary waltz for them. The drummer just played a 3/4 beat and the other guitar player just faked it. you need to attend a few dances to see what the bands are playing and see if it’s the same type of stuff that you play. These people want to listen and dance to music that they grew up with. That’s all I can tell you. Good luck!

Yes the Legion halls represent a completely untapped market for us, which is why I'd been trying to break into them. I'd expect that their audience is very similar to what we see in libraries, as our trombone players says: "older people who still have drivers licenses". That's exactly what we saw on Friday, which was a town's senior/community center. Our band now has over 35 programs of music and probably close to 1000 songs in our repertoire, so I'm pretty sure we could find something that they like. Attending a dance does make a lot of sense, however.

You’ve got to remember that they may be older but they aren’t dead. They want to dance. You’ve got to play music that they danced to in their teens and twenties.

I’ve played a couple of retirement homes, where average age was approx 80. They wanted to dance, even the ones in wheelchairs. They didn’t even complain about how loud we were, as most were deaf. . They also want to hear stuff they remember from their youth, which these days is probably 60s. Over here, they like to hear singers doing stuff they can sing along to

Today's gig went really well- we're on an Irish roll. Just one more Irish program next weekend and this book gets filled away until next year...
Traffic was not fun however. The gig was out on Long Island, and Manhattan is directly in the way so either you have to drive straight through or skirt around it in heavily densely populated areas. 90 minutes each way was about the best case

Busy day today. Doing a Costco run this morning. Currently have the bedsheets in the wash and we want to lift the mattress to vacuum up under the bed. While we are at it, we’ll probably do a quick housecleaning. Our son is coming over for dinner tonight and my wife is making eggplant parmesan. Lots to do!!

I got mail this morning indicating that it's time to renew my drivers license and my BC services card, so I guess one of my chores this afternoon will be to visit the BC Access Center and deal with that.
Feeling groggy today, I guess because of the time change. I had trouble getting to sleep last night and struggled to get out of bed at 10:30 AM. I hate the way the time changes affect me.

Well some good and some not so good today.
Went to the dentist for a cleaning and that went smoothly. However this afternoon my Surface Pro 7 network adapter started giving me trouble and it took me an hour to get the thing working again. Thank god I have a ethernet to USB adapter. No ethernet = no way to update network card drivers, etc...

Finalized my trip dates to Knoxville, TN and Columbus, OH so now I need to start looking at hotels for one of the transit nights I love Knoxville! When I worked at TRW, we had an assembly plant down there and I used to go down there once or twice a year. I remember we used to go eat at a place called The Butcher Shop near the location of the worlds fair. I believe it’s closed down now but it was a great place where you picked out your steak and cooked it yourself on the huge grills they had there.

I'm sure we will have fun in Knoxville- my friend has lived down there for around 20 years. That week of vacation is expiring at the end of the month and I am not going to let that happen. I've reached out to a couple guys I work with in Columbus and although it is not on the way home, I am going to loop through there. I can really use the days away.

I just love that it now doesn't get dark until 7:00!

I had a horrible sleep last night…..dreamed that I was on the golf course and witnessed a midair collision of two planes that came crashing down nearby. After that, I just tossed and turned all night. I got up at 7am today and started booking tee times for the summer as today was the 1st day to start booking. However, I’m feeling like absolute crap due to the lack of sleep.
My son and I are going to head out this morning to pick up my new Napoleon BBQ, I’ll probably assemble it tomorrow or Thursday as we are supposed to get some warmer temperatures.
If I feel like it today, I’ll probably try to fix my faucet in the upstairs bathroom. Delta came through for me and sent me the new knobs, cartridges and rubber seats. Finally gonna stop the drip!

So I got my faucet fixed…..drilled out the old grub screw to loosen the handle. Then the nut that held the cartridge in place was a little seized in place so I had to carefully remove it. All in all, it took about an hour to do a 10 minute repair.
My son and I went to pick up my new BBQ only to find out that although they state that they have 3 in stock, they are located off the premises and they will need to get it delivered to the store. So that was a wasted trip.
At least I got my golf games booked for most of the summer.

Otherwise the day has been fantastic. It is a beautiful spring day and I went on a few walks

Since I was the one working on the future org design with him I could have advocated for that (he did ask me). However from what I see, this group is poorly positioned and I see the next manager as a "Lord Mountbatten" (last British governor of India)

Th last little while has been an exercise in frustration.....I made the deal on the new JBL cabinet last night and told the seller I'd e-transfer the money right away to guarantee that I was serious and he wouldn't sell it out from under me. I made a trip to the bank to deposit the funds from my bass/case sale, and when I got back, started the e-transfer. It should have been a piece of cake....I used to pay my rent by e-transfer at my former address. Unfortunately, I was having a brain-fart day (a little gift courtesy of the time change) and made an error doing the e-transfer....The way Facebook Marketplace is laid out, the columns of text are fairly narrow. Shouldn't matter, but, in order to make sure I put all the correct information into my bank account to register the seller as a new contact, I copied-cut-and pasted all the info from Messenger into the bank forms.....But.....The text columns on Facebook are so narrow that it dropped the last letter of the email address onto a second line, which I didn't get. That meant that the email address I used for the e-transfer was invalid. The bank took the amount of the e-transfer out of my account, but without a valid email address for the new contact, the money was in limbo....Couldn't get the funds back, couldn't figure out (at that time) why it wasn't working, and as a result, I dicked around for hours trying to get the money to the seller. Eventually, I had to tell him that I'd be at the bank at opening to straighten it out. So, I was at the bank as soon as they opened, and they managed to cancel the bad transaction.
I came home, opened my bank account on the computer, and tried to correct the email address so I could complete the transaction. The computer refused to allow me to correct the mistake, and also refused to let me add the same person as a new contact with the correct email address. Called the bank, they showed me how to delete the payee so I could put in the correct information. Tried to do the transfer again, but I guess the bank's system found something suspicious about the fact that I'd tried so many times, and it locked me out of my account. I eventually got my account unlocked by going to the bank, but by the time the e-transfer was done, it was noon and I'd wasted half a day. A comedy of errors...Keystone Cops banking, lol. Anyway, it's done, but a word to the wise - Don't ever make an e-transfer banking error, or you'll spend hours fixing it....
