Well the day ended a lot better than it started. This morning there was still tension with my son from Sunday night but after he got home from college we really talked through some things and it feels a lot better with an actual resolution Kids….you can’t live with ‘em and you can’t send ‘em back! glad you got things resolved. 👍 Yeah I think we got to the root of the problem this time. He's struggling with an academic class that isn't his strong suit and he's been falling behind so he's becoming increasingly irritable with a short fuse. He and I have been fighting over the stupidest little things lately and I know I'm not particularly irritable myself so something had to be wrong on his side. (Yes, I would admit if I was on edge lately and I'm not ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ) The good news- he's explained the problem to his professor and gotten an extension on an assignment and next week is his spring break so he has time to catch up. I told him that I'm also willing to look over what he's doing and give him some advice on a path forward. I also told him if he can get himself caught up, I will take a day off next week to spend with him and go somewhere.

Went for a haircut this morning and then I came home and fixed the handrail on the stairs leading to my basement. The mounting brackets were pulling out of the wall and as I get older, I tend to use the handrail more and more these days. I was thinking of taking the car in to get it washed but I may wait until it gets warmer.

That's an important repair for sure- That's all you need to slip and the handrail comes out of the wall and you go down the stairs. Yup I got that repaired and then my wife saw that I was in “repair mode” and decided to refer to the “honey do” list. So i ended up changing the cartridge on the shower faucet and then I was trying to replace the cold water cartridge on the cold water faucet on the bathroom sink but I ended up stripping the Allen head set screw that affixes the handle to the shaft. I’ve been trying to find some other way to get it off but it appears that I may have to drill it out. So I emailed Delta to get a new handle as I will end up destroying this one if I drill it out. I’ll have to wait and see if they charge me for it as they carry a lifetime guarantee on their products.

Pretty good day overall. Work was fine and things have quieted down with the my son to where they should be.
I have to take 6 carryover days off this month and time is ticking so I think I'm going to take the last week of the month off and maybe a day next week. Thinking about what kind of road trip I might want to do.
Just cracked open a bottle of Bordeaux for lazing on the couch

I did a Costco run this morning and picked up some croissants for breakfast this weekend.
Currently in a pissing contest with customer service at Delta Faucet. They are asking for a copy of my receipt in order to get replacement parts under the lifetime warranty. I remodelled the bathroom 12-14 years ago and I don’t know if I even have the receipt. I’ve never been asked for a copy of the receipt when they’ve sent me parts in the past. I asked them in my latest email why I have to register my product if they don’t keep the information in their database. They should be able to type in my name and address and my profile should come up with all the information..
Just waiting for their reply

Glad the weekend is here but I'm annoyed at myself. My boss passed something over to me late afternoon and I was ready to work on it and then got an hour and a half of unexpected work calls that totally sidetracked me. Now it is too late to start on it

I read the first sentence of the warranty and it stipulates that every part is warranted for life to the original owner in the original house that it was installed which is my case. The 10 yr clause covers faucets in commercial buildings. So I took a screen shot of the warranty, highlighted the first sentence and told him he was wrong as I do not live in a commercial building and that if he couldn’t do anything for me, he should have his manager call me as I’ve never had a problem getting replacement parts from Delta, even as recent as last year. I also told him that we are about to remodel our main floor bathroom and I’ll have to think twice about buying another Delta product. I’ll keep you all updated so that you’ll know whether to look at delta products in future or look elsewhere.

Not a good day. Earlier, I got a Facebook Message from a guy who owns the same model of Eminence speaker I have for sale, asking if I'd tried it as a guitar speaker. I told him I hadn't tried it with a guitar, but would connect it to my Strat and Twin Reverb and let him know. I hadn't used my Twin since it got two new 12AX7 preamp tubes, a new quad of matched TAD 6L6 output tubes and was rebiased last summer, so I was pretty distressed when it sounded distorted. I immediately thought it must be the speaker, so I plugged the amp into my Altec speaker and got the same result. I went through the process of elimination, plugging in direct with a known good cable, eliminated the Z-Matcher and Headphone Tap between the amp and speaker, and it's definitely in the amp. I'm not making any connection between the service work that was done with the current problem, but having just spent over 400.00 on the Twin, I'm almost ready to fix it and get rid of it. It'll be going back to the tech on Monday.

I’ve received numerous cartridges, seals, levers etc in the past, with no problem. Just over a year ago, they replaced the lever for my shower for the exact same reason that I need them to replace the current lever.

That way you can find out if it’s the power tubes or one of the preamp tubes. Does it distort in both the normal and vibrato channels? If yes, then you know it’s not the preamps. You can pull out V3 to V5. V6 is the phase inverter for the power tubes. Try swapping it with the other 12AT7. This should rule out the tubes. You should also pull the tubes out and reinsert them a few times to clean off any oxidation on the contacts. Have you tried a different speaker cable? Also check your reverb cables as they could be oxidized too! These are things that I’m thinking off the top of my head

New 12AX7's were bought and installed in V1 and V2. Also sent the amp to a good local tech who determined I had some leaking output tubes, so I bought and installed a new matched quad of TAD 6L6WGC-STR short bottle output tubes. Basically, almost zero hours since the work was done. I've checked using multiple confirmed good speaker cables and guitar cables plugged direct into both channels. I've spray-cleaned the Vintage Jon reverb cables and RCA sockets, but since the problem also exists in the Normal channel, I can't see how they'd be involved anyway. Tested the amp into three cabinets...the Gibson, the Altec 418, and the Ampeg PF115HE. I'm pretty much at the limit of what I can do here. The amp's going to the amp that did the output tubes/rebiasing last summer and I'll have to see what he suggests. He scoped the amp after the last round of work and it tested 100%. I'll do one more round of testing over the weekend before the Twin goes to the tech on Monday, but right now, I'm feeling so pissed off and discouraged that I'm just about ready to be done.

Actually, Ken could swap the two 12AT7 tubes to see if it makes a difference. The one closest to the power tubes is the phase inverter and I believe in replacing it when I replace the power tubes as it takes a lot of abuse. The reverb and vibrato tubes usually can cause hiss but I’m not sure they can cause distortion. However, just for shits and giggles, you can pull these three tubes out, one at a time to see if anything changes. If the problem persists, then bring it to your tech.

I’m thinking of bringing my PRS in for its free setup today. But first I’m going to go over the neck with a fret rocker to determine if I’ve got any high frets and mark them. I did this years ago with an Epiphone Dot and L&M did a full fret level with the setup and when I got it back It had very low action and no fret buzz whatsoever. If I don’t bring it in today, I’ll at least check the fret heights.
EDIT: so I brought the guitar in today. There were a few high spots on the frets but nothing extreme, possibly only 0.002-0.003”. I used a sharpie and marked up the offending frets. Hopefully they’ll correct them.

Wow--it's been that long since I popped in here?
Well, born busy, stuff going wrong in the bathroom & furnace. But all resolved now--had help without hiring anybody.
Have a nasty sinus headache today--btu hashborwns seem to eb helping with that--at least psychologically.
So taking it easy today--have a big family thing coming up to get ready for though.
Will ty to fit in some playing & some organizing of space to improve my gear space, etc.

Today's gig went well- it was a new place for us and hopefully they will bring us back.
Other than that I went on a couple walks, did a little shopping and then filled up the 4 reserve gas cans (20 gallons total). Normally I wouldn't do that but the prices here are going crazy. The Exxon around the corner is still $3.91 / gallon, but most on the highway are well over $4. I have tons of gas stabilizer and I'll probably keep 20 gallons on hand for the foreseeable future

It’s going up again overnight to $5.47 US per US gallon. Time to start looking for an e-bike.

Gas here is out of sight. I heard on last night's news that in Victoria, regular gas is 1.94/liter. I haven't done an accurate conversion but I know there's somewhere around 4 1/2 liters per gallon, so we're at well over 8.00/gallon....Absolutely nuts. I'm so happy to have a small car and be doing limited driving - I bought a tank of gas around the beginning of December and topped it up sometime in February. I was out this afternoon to get the car washed and noticed it's just above three quarters of a tank. I don't know what I'd do if I had a thirstier car or put on more miles. I just checked Gas Buddy for this area and the best price in town is 1.89.9. Scary.....
I was going to talk about my amp issue, but feel it's time to move it out of our general thread, so if you're interested, looks in Amplifiers.

Yup, I checked gas buddy around here and we are hovering around the $1.839 to $1.859 (CAD) per litre. Costco is at $1.799/litre. An imperial gallon is approx 4.5 litres, where a US gallon is 3.8 litres. $1.85 CAD is $1.45 US. So the price of a US gallon around here in US bucks is $5.51/gal. I’m glad I don’t own my old Ford Windstar with its 98 litre tank and 13l/100km efficiency. Right now, I’m using about 30 litres/week in my Tucson and almost paying double what I was paying 2 1/2 yrs ago when I bought it. Back then, we were just under a buck a litre.

I thought I heard that Ukraine supplies a lot of wheat for Europe. North America will be asked to take up the slack which means less wheat and higher prices for us. wouldn’t a bullet in Putins head be cheaper?
