No fireplace Brent. I used to have an airtight wood stove in our family room when we bought the house 38 years ago but it used to heat the room up to over 90 degrees which made it hard to sit there and watch TV. I took it out after about 10 years. I used to have an “illegal” fire pit on that patio where the tree fell but I was always worried that a neighbour would call the bylaw people on me as open fires are not allowed in the city without a permit. I always kept a BBQ grate nearby in case a bylaw officer showed up as an open fire could be used to cook. 🤔 Weird laws. Anyway I now have another patio attached to the house and I have a gas fire table there that we use in the spring and fall when we sit outside. So I really have no use for the wood and I don’t think any of my neighbours do either. Too bad.

yeah, i understand about the nosey neighbors. I have one behind me that would report me if she gets the chance. one very late afternoon(almost dark), I saw her looking over my fence into my backyard(garden). she didn't see me. I had a small fire burning and she thought I had left it untended. I said, "I'm watching it and the water hose is right there". "oh, I was just checking". some people's children. so, I don't trust any of them.
when I was a kid in Louisiana, my dad would cut down a oak tree and we'd have the whole tree burned up in two days at the most. those fires would get so hot. there is an art to knowing how to burn wood like that. you keep it packed tight and every bit of it will burn.

According to weather app, there's light cloud and a gentle breeze. Sky is so grey I can't see any light cloud and wind is a bit stronger than a gentle breeze. Temp has dropped to 48, which is cold for us.
Waiting for windscreen man to come and swap my van windscreen

The extreme winds finally died down around 8am this morning. I assessed the damage and there was no property damage elsewhere...fence is intact. Just one branch on a nearby tree was broken. Today we are looking at overcast conditions and 40F.

Well it's raining quite hard now. Luckily the men managed to change my windscreen a couple of hours ago before the onset of rain.

Cracked windshields are a fact of life in Alaska. With only 3 main arteries serving the state and a lot of unpaved surface streets, rocks are flying everywhere. Big rigs coming off haul roads, constant road maintenance, flying ice chunks, you name it, windshields take a beating up here. You would be hard pressed to find a windshield that hasn’t been replaced more then once. The police won’t bother you about a cracked windshield unless it’s in your line of sight. The few outfits that replace them do quite well.

It's usually an MoT failure as well. That's the annual check for vehicles 3 or more years older

We’ve reached today’s high of 36F but geez, it’s been quite the mixed bag. Like they say, if you don’t like the weather, wait 15 minutes! I’m looking at a blue sky with puffy clouds but 30 minutes ago it was snowing quite heavily for about 5 minutes. Earlier was cloudy with some showers. Geez make up your mind.!!

I was on the roof of a three story building this morning, it was -5, no wind (thankfully). Fortunately the issue I was there to look at was resolved quickly so I didn’t have to spend a lot of time up there. Yep, looking forward to retirement.

It looks a bit grey out there and temp is currently 54. Popped outside though and with the wind, it feels colder.
A first for me this morning. Having a drive through Flu jab. Apparently at our new Medical Centre which opened a couple of days ago, they have a system that funnels people in their vehicles through a tent. Pop your window down, roll your sleeve up and a nurse injects you.
I haven't had a flu jab for years as it always made me ill, but though with this virus going on, I had better get my old antibodies working

I haven't had a flu jab for years as it always made me ill, but though with this virus going on, I had better get my old antibodies working John, my wife and I have never had a flu shot and she used to work in healthcare! However, we were thinking of getting one this year but the demand has been so high that the clinics keep running out. Yesterday, the Canadian medical officer of health said that so far this season, they’ve only had 17 cases of people being hospitalized due to the flu compared to 400+ last year during the same period. She said that this reduction has a lot to do with everyone masking, distancing and sanitizing. I usually catch colds in April and late September but this year I’ve been able to keep colds at bay as I rarely leave the house and when I do, I always follow the COVID rules. However, I go see my doctor in early December and I figure he’ll give me the shot. It’s been a mix of sun and cloud today. Got up to 36F but with a little breeze it felt cooler. I went to get a new chain for my chainsaw today and the recommended one didn’t fit so I put the old one back on and started having a go at the fallen tree. Gave up after I cut a branch and it rolled over towards me. Gonna wait for the pros to come on Saturday.

I figure why take the chance. it's better to be safe than sorry. they don't hurt. especially, after all the injections we got in the military. ha ha

I know I had loads of jabs in the military and also had loads through my life, but my upper arm is quite swollen and very painful all night and this morning. I must be allergic to Flu jabs I suppose.

Mainly sunny and mild today but fairly windy with 30mph (50kph) gusts. High 64. Looks like the last mild day for a while as we get back to seasonal temperatures tomorrow.
I’ve got a noon tee time for what looks like my last round of golf this year. Also one of the latest “late season” rounds I’ve ever played as most golf courses are usually closed by the first week of November.

It's really blustery here at the moment and not supposed to be raining, but I just heard a few spatters on my loft window
