Laney VC15 Oh man, I think I hate you. I wanted one of those for a while (or the 30 watt version) but they are impossible to find around here. Had I not picked up a new (to me) amp today I would be hating you so bad right now.......

Had I not picked up a new (to me) amp today I would be hating you so bad right now....... Well just to make your day even worse I actually got it dirt cheap . The previous owner had bought from new and only used it for a dozen gigs in a Shadows tribute band, so it was like new but I got it at little under half price If it can be of any comfort to you I did not succeed in convincing him to sell his fiesta red 1964 Strat for next to nothing . Not that I minded much - I'm not a Strat guy. Now don't let the hate eat you up - have a nice weekend and a happy NAD

All my amps bar one are tube amps, and the amp that is not a tube amp is a crap solid state Peavey amp that hasn't been plugged in or turned on for probably 17 or 18 years now it's that bad, the only good thing to be said about that amp is that it makes a good door stop.

I am not that big into amps. L-R: Vox AC4, Fender something, Gibson Les Paul Amp, Marshall Pinup , Orange Micro Terror and Marshall Acoustic AS100D plus another Vox and Fender (cheaper amps) in storage. Most of the time I use the Marshall bridged for 1 Watt (I think) and/or the Orange.

It's like having a Marshall stack at room volume and for an unbelievable price. If you use a slightly larger cabinet (10 or 12) it sounds even better.

I think you're really over selling the Micro Terrors there, I bought them after being recommended them by you, and I agree with you that they are great little amps, hell I can run four of them in a single double bedroom and it's not over powering, but they sound nothing like a full stack of Marshall's, I gig with two full stacks of JCM 800's, and Orange's Micro terrors sound nothing like JCM 800's yet alone Marshall, if you want to get that Marshal sound without paying Marshall prices, Blackstar is the closest you are going to get, after all it is a company started by and run by former Marshall designers and staff, but even they are still not going to sound exactly like a Marshall they are close real close, but they don't sound exactly like a Marshall. The Orange Micro Amps sound like Orange amps, they have Orange's renowned sound to them, their not trying to sound like a Marshall, they are designed to sound like a Orange but at a lower wattage/volume, and they pull that off very well.

Lessee.... This is currently the loudest: Traynor Custom Valve 40W One of these little guys Vox AC4TV And one of these little guys Marshall DSL5C (Those are 'stock' pictures from the web) Used to have a 71 Traynor YBA-1 w/ a 2x15 cab but the fucker was too loud. When I was playing out back in the day I used my drummer's 100W Marshalls. I don't need none of that loud shit no mo'

I'm becoming less a fan of single speaker, low wattage setups. Yeah, you can crank them at home pretty easily. But they don't move nearly as much air. If I had a tiny terror or ac15, I'd at least run a 2X12. But I'd still rather have 50+ watts.

My Laney VC15 sounds fairly big through my Celestion G12H loaded semi open 1x12 though, but 2x12 makes for a more full sound so to speak.

Low watt amps sound spectacular through a pair of low-watt speakers, especially 10's. WGS 10" veterans are fantastic speakers that my homebuilt 5f2-a throws around like rag dolls. I tried driving a pair of Vet 30's but they sounded a bit lifeless. Just too stiff. But the pair of 10's feels pretty big in my amp, with a big floating baffle. I play it with the band, without a mic, but I don't need a ton of headroom.

I don't need the extra volume, I just think it would be nice to have the even fuller sound.

How is that one? I am curious to try one out. It seems like it would make a great all-purpose little piece of gear. Not that I need anything more than my Traynor YGL1 and Mustang III, but, you know...GAS.

If I was to get another amp it would be the Grandmeister. The Peavey is has all the same features, but has a built in reverb.

I used to own an H&K 25th Anniversary Edition Tube. Of all the amps that I have owned that is pretty much the only one that I regret letting go.
Prior to buying the YGL1 I kept thinking that I should go back to the Edition Tube but could never find one at a good price (there were some NOS ones available in the chain that I deal with but the local store that had them wanted too much for an out of production amp). Now that I have the YGL1 my amp GAS is cured but if I didn't have this amp I would still be GASing for an Edition Tube.

I had a H&K Tubemeister 18 that I got used somewhere for a great price a few years back. A buddy of mine loved the thing and I eventually gave in and sold it to him. I missed it so when the 30th Anniversary models were released I quickly got one. This one I will never sell, lol.

I don't say it often, but tubes and solid state coexist quite well, particularly in drive situations. One of my signiature tones is basically running a guitar full bore into a good OD pedal with a decent bit of dirt dialed in and a tad of volume to push a fuzz behind it when I want to bring the roof down, then the fuzz is in front of a tube amp set fairly crunchy. I keep meaning to record a sound demo but it takes a while to set up a mic and get everything dialed in, then master and upload.

Cause they don't have enough of it that I can just trim it a tad on the EQ. That singing tone with the speaker breakup is lovely though.

Yeah, if I need tighter bass, the 800 comes out swinging. But I really have no use for a firm bass response unless I'm strumming and singing. For the most part, I like it to get dirty and break up earlier, for more of a blues rock sound. We could very well be talking about two completely different genres of rock; as well. The hardest rock I play sounds like it came from the 70s, when I'm doing it right.

My wife found this pic of the very last gig I played with a band and then put the guitar down until just recently. Anyway, you can see the 100/100 monobloc behind me sitting on top of the jcm 900 1960 cab. This gig was at a VFW, a little more then 3 years ago. Can't see the pedal board in the pic but I had my full set-up at that gig. Room size always determined how much fire power I brought to any gig. I really loved that amp, It produced just about any tone I wanted for the type of music I was playing at the time. At that time I was playing country. I just hated it. A capo on my geeter? Could not stand it. Playing for money only was a big mistake for me, it was no fun and was probably the reason it has been 3 plus years since I picked it up.
