Just had to say that. However, I've been playing the hell out of my Lester lately.

If it werent' for jimmy page playing a tele in zeppelin until he started playing LP's i'd say you were exaggerating but it doens't have a humbucker, nor does ti have a whammy bar so it's obviously not perfect

As for humbuckers, put it in the middle position and you are close. That being said, Page didn't need humbuckers on his to get that classic early Zeppelin sound so......................

They're also a lot more versatile than most non-teleists realize. Chrissy Hynde sounds nothing like Brad Paisley, but that crashing sound she gets out of her chords keeps the band tight: right where they KNOW where the "One" is!

First off, that's a damn nice look'in geeter GT. I can't dispute the thread title because I have never played a tele. Next time I go to a music store I might try one.

Boom! There it is! Great guitar that! If I ever learn how to properly play a 7.25" radius I will be going for my holy grail too - a '62 AVRI. And welcome to the new forum!

That's why I went with the Hot Rod. It has a 9.5" radius. I drool over the white '64 vintage reissues, but that 7.25" radius is a deal breaker.

Almost every time I pull my finger off of a string on that radius it sounds like I am executing a pull-off. Obviously an issue caused by poor technique but, to correct it, I would have to buy a guitar with that radius and then practice diligently to correct it. But if I don't manage to correct it I've blown money on a guitar that I can't play worth a shit. But those double bound bodies on the '62 AVRIs, especially the sunburst ones, just hit the spot for me!

One of my students is buying a Tele, per my recommendation. Dark red MIM w/maple. Seller might throw in a spare bridge pup. Guess who gets it?

Somehow this showed up on my new threads search--but it's from 2015.
Are Teles better? We have many new members since then--how about it? Are they better?
My answer is--better for what-or in what way?
For me--no--I find them bulky & all that--but I do enjoy a lot of music that was played on a Tele.

I really liked the sound of my Tele but the intonation of the barrel saddles frustrated me.

I’ve played Teles all my life. I bought my first Gibson in ‘97 (Howard Roberts Fusion) but I still mostly played my Tele. Sure the intonation isn’t perfect but I’ve gotten it pretty close. I like it’s feel in my hands and it’s sound/sparkle thru a Fender amp. I think I also like the vintage frets in that I can fret harder on the strings and not put that string out of tune like I can do on my Gibsons. It’s much easier to modify them if you want to.

I had a Tele for many years. I also like the vintage frets a lot- mine was a '52 AVRI. My frustration with the intonation is probably rooted in the fact that i am barring everything in flat keys. If my Bb major chord on 6 is not intonated correctly I really can't play it with the band. I guess i could have put a 6 saddle bridge on but I didn't feel that was the right thing to do
