Anyone here ever try Elixers or other coated strings? I tried Elixers once and I hated what I heard so I gave the other packs away.

That’s why I’ve been using D’addario strings. They are sealed in an anti corrosion plastic bag. I buy a few 3 packs when they go on sale and I have some lying around here that may be 2 or 3 years old.. I think I tried the vintage reissue strings on one of my Gibsons years ago and if I recall, they were a bit mellower. I went back to the Brite Wires again before I started using D’addarios on everything.
I picked up some Rotosound strings a couple of years ago and I was pleasantly surprised with them. Pretty much like the D’addarios and they were even cheaper on sale.
Like I said earlier, the L&M house brand strings are rebranded Dean Marley strings, made in the USA.. they are also a pretty good string for $5.50 CAD.

I tried out a guitar that a guy had just restrung with Elixirs and I found that they sounded in between a flat wound and round wound string. Something I may try on my ES137 someday as there is less string squeak like a flat wound but brighter.

Dull and flat sounding for me. My son has them on his Les Paul, which is currently residing in my house. I can instantly tell the difference if I play his guitar compared to mine.
Still some people like them, so it's bets to experience them yourselves

You have to use what you like & makes sense. That's going to be different for different people--and we shouldn't have an issue with that--and be happy there are so many options out there. (Now if GHS would make their 10-52 set with a wound 17.) Could you get some single strings from the manufacturer and just swap that one string? That's what I've been doing. But the single string costs almost half of what the full set costs. And then I have a plain 17 I don't use. So a set with the wound 17 would be better.

I seem to recall one source of strings mentioned on a forum that just sells singles, so a guy could order a custom combination that suited his playing style. I assume the wound 17 is a replacement for the plain G/3rd that so many sets come with. I couldn't use one, because I like bending too much, but I can see the appeal for some guys. I've read that a lot of what we'd think of now as primitive bridges with no way to intonate would work fine years ago when wound third strings were commonplace. Depending on what it cost with shipping & handling that could be a good option. As for bending--I do a lot of bending & a wound 17 is easier for me to bend than a plain 17 Keep in mind the wound 17 is the same diameter with the winding as a plain 17 without winding--so the core is smaller than the 17. My arch top has a tune-o-matic style bridge--so intonation wouldn't be a problem.

Sound aside, I didn't like the way they felt- ah I see Zontar just said the same thing

That’s why I change my strings after a few gigs....my hands don’t glide as well. I’ve even tried “fast fret” but it only lasts for a few songs.

I usually apply it before we start playing.

I have fast fret in my tool bag, but always forget to use it after a gig I always wipe my guitars down after a gig. I’ve never thought to use the fast fret at that time. I usually apply it before we start playing. I have a String Cleaner Well, actually two--a guitar one and a bass one. I use the bass one more often as I have two basses and mostly play one of them--so I keep it in the case. (I have more than two guitars--so I don't keep the cleaner in a case--so I forget to use it sometimes.) It has a pad on it that also cleans the fretboard--and as the bass I play the most is a fretless it works well. (So is it really fretboard?) I got both on sale--After getting the guitar one first I wanted to get a bass one--but they were always higher priced than I liked--but when I saw one on sale I grabbed it--and don't regret it at all.

One of the local stores didn't have Boomers last time I was in there--I don;t need new ones now, but since I was there I though I might pick some up to keep my trips from home to a minimum. But no GHS of any sort But they do list them online--and the GHS website is up & running.
Has anybody heard anything about GHS having Covid related issues?
Or are people just hoarding them?
