Most everyone here has been a musician for many years. Through all those years of going through gear I know everyone here has sold something (namely amps) that you regretted selling. What was it? I'll start. In 1980 I sold a peavey classic vtx tube combo that I would give almost anything to get back, that's on the top of the list. In 1996 I sold a Marshall jcm 900 50w dual reverb head with 4x12 1960 cab.....damn that was dumb, great amp. Well, let's have it. Also, if you want to share why you got rid of it that would be great. I got rid of the peavy at the time because I thought a half stack would be better....... Stupid.

I haven't played very long (played as a kid, gave it up for sports, and didn't start again until grad school when I decided that I needed a hobby) so mine is more current - I regret getting rid of a Hughes & Kettner 25th Anniversary Edition Tube. The drive channel was OK but the clean channel was glorious. That is the only one I regret getting rid of. Or maybe my Vox AC15 because I had one of the limited edition blue ones - the first of that colour to make it into Canada.

I had to sell a Mesa Boogie MKIV about eight years ago. I miss that amp. Extremely versatile, and loud.

2 amps I was particularly fond of was my H n'H VS Bassamp. 100 watt jobbie with an over-sized 4x10 cabinet with dual concentric speakers in them. Lovely sound. Shared a rehearsal room with another band & the dick head guitarist in the other band plugged my speaker cabinet into his Marshall amps & turned them up full & blew the lot of the speakers to kingdom come. I took his two beloved amps off of him till he payed me to get them replaced. Unfortunately they didn't make them anymore so never got that sound back. He also got a right good punch in the coupon for using my gear. Don't fuck with another mans gear. The amp it's self died a few years later.
Now my Dynacord bass amp was a monster. 300 watt amp combo with 2 150 watt 10" speakers in it along with an extension cabinet again 2x10" 150 watt speakers plus...A great big dirty bass bin with a 18" and 12" speaker both of which were again 150 watts a piece. 900 watts of speakers powered by a mighty 300 watt amp. Never managed to get the volume knob anywhere past 2 and a half. So loud. People needed seat belts in the first few rows. Had to sell it as I had moved to London & needed dosh to live on. Stupid bloody mistake that was.

My amp regret was selling off an 83 Fender Super Champ. 18w, one ten-inch speaker, glassy Fender cleans and distortion from soft sag to raging bull. Paul Rivera did one hell of a job designing that amp -- the only thing I didn't like was that the V3 pentode used the second half to drive either the reverb tank or the gain channel -- meaning you couldn't do both at once.
I'll be buying another one later this year. Right now on my amp radar for my new guitar purchase are one of three: Peavey ValveKing 20 Micro-head, an Egnater Tweaker 40, or the same company's Rebel 30 head. I'm leaning towards the Peavey for functionality, but I love a Tweaker's tone, and the 40w version has two channels, making it more giggable than its 15w version with only one channel.

I traded for it used when I worked in a big shop in the early 80's... I think it was a 70's something model.... White with gold piping... Been so long I don't remember what model... Had it for a little while and traded it back to the shop for a brand new Korg DSS-1 Sampling Keyboard... Played more keyboard (stack) than guitar in the band so I figured I'd use something smaller for easier/quicker load in/out.....

Singer in an old band of mine worked in an import/export warehouse close to Glasgow airport & they had tons of Marshall amps & cabs & we got the pick of them for doing our gigs. It was well dodgy & he would have got the bullet if his boss had found out we were punk rocking those brand spankers all over the west of Scotland. Anyway a bunch of cabs came in that had white fronts with black round grill plates for the 4 speakers & the Marshall logo in red. The two guitarist came in their knickers & bought a stack each much to my amusement & hassled me to get the bass version. FUCK OFF was my reply. Those things are gonna look awful & black mocket in a few months of hard gigging & I was right & they got rid of them for the more practical hard wearing black jobbies which is how things ought to be.

Never had my pick of anything, that's awesome to have a connection. First Marshall I ever bought was a 50w dual reverb jcm 900 with the 4x12 1960 cab. Got rid of that but kept the cab and eventually wound up with a Marshall el34 monobloc 100/100 power head. That thing was sweeeet.

Aye it was sweet to roll into a gig of a Friday night with 3 Marshall stacks. It was 86-ish then & the guitar amps sounded great as always but the bass amps sucked so bad. All you got was BASS no matter what you dialed in. I hated them & stuck with H n' H for that Stranglers/Motorhead/Rush big growly sound I've always loved.

A late bud of mine had one of the first Marshall bass amps in the US given to him by JM when over there from what I remember. He blew the damn thing up so many times he dumped it... He said it just couldn't live through his playing... Guitarist (retired now) I think still has the amp JM gave him....

They got a lot better after that in the 90's & the Naughty's especially. Always remember the guitarists complaining about my shit sound back then. And complaining about me complaining about my shit sound too.

I was kind of sad to have sold my JCM 900 DR half stack until I picked up my 4103. That half stack was one of the only things I've ever sold for money. Usually when I unload it gear it's because I don't like it at all.

I had owned and let go of a vintage Fender Blonde Super Reverb, and I had and let go of a 1958 Fender Tweed Deluxe.
