I can’t get out of the habit of wearing one. I know that most people use their phones to check the time but I’ve been wearing a watch for over 50 years and I feel naked without one.
I have a little collection of different ones that I used to change from day to day when I used to work but now I tend to wear the same one everyday around the house. My main everyday watch is a Movado (museum face) that my wife gave me for my 50th birthday. I also have a 34 yrs old Seiko that I wear when I go golfing. I also inherited my father’s and father in laws Eterna and Omega (respectively) that they received for reaching the Quarter Century Club at work…nice classic automatic watches with leather straps. I also have a few other Seiko watches that I’ve kinda stopped wearing now that I don’t seem to go out much anymore.
I was hoping to give my collection to my son but he doesn’t wear a watch anymore so I’m sure they’ll just be sold off or tossed out when I die but hopefully not.
So does anyone else still wear watches or am I the only dinosaur here?

I always wear a watch. I usually wear the relatively inexpensive Citizen my grandmother gave to my grandfather for their 50th wedding anniversary (24 years ago), or a cheap Casio. I know the Citizen's days are probably numbered at this point and wouldn't be worth the expense to fix, so I'll likely get something inexpensive to replace it.
I'm usually resistant to new technology anyway. I've never owned a smartphone and have no plans to get one either.

A wristwatch is the only jewelry I'll wear. I'm crazy about knowing what time it is - all the time.

I worked around moving parts and electricity my whole career so wearing jewelry or watches is something I’ve never done. The company I work for now gave me a watch when I went over 5 years with them, still sitting in the box.

I always wear a watch- a ~$50 Timex chronograph.
When I was single I used to buy more expensive watches, but nowadays I really could care less. In fact when I took my Timex in for a new band, the jeweler in my town looked at me and said "What's with this- most guys your age are trading up to a Rolex or some other luxury watch." I told him I really just don't care about the image at all and if I need to adjust the time by a minute during the DST change either way so be it. I can understand that others put value on an expensive watch, but it does nothing for me.

Is it cheaper that way? I'm not sure if we even have plans like that here.

I can't remember the last time I wore a wrist watch. For a time I had a watch that clipped to my belt buckle.
And there are non smart phones that tell you the time.
On the other hand I once spent a weekend in Vancouver, didn't have my phone or my watch--and I had places to be at specific times for some of it.
But I survived & even got some guitar store visits in.

I still have a land line. My cell phone plan started as a Telus Pay and Talk where you top up every month. I graduated from a flip phone to a cheap smartphone and then my son started giving me his old phones when he got a new one. I have my Telus plan set to auto-renew every month for $10 which gives me 30 minutes of airtime and if I don't use it up, which I don't, it carries over to the next month and the next. I also have a $5 texting plan that gives me 250 free texts a month. i don't have a data plan on it but I can connect to wifi when it's available. My kids only communicate to us via text messages so it works out well and at least I have a good phone in case of an emergency and its got a decent camera to take pictures and videos. I also store a crapload of music on it. I'm hoping the US phone networks come up here to stop the damn monopoly that Bell, Telus and Rogers have on the wireless market. They have excellent rates for cellphones with data plans...at least half of what we pay up here.

Ya, I'd be totally lost without anything to tell time. I'd go to the nearest Dollarama and buy a cheap throwaway watch

Don't know how much you pay over there, but I only pay £6:48 a month for unlimited calls & texts + 500 MB of data a month. As the pic shows, 500 MB is plenty for me as most of my downloads are done at home on wifi. I do own my iPhone though. Much prefer to buy the things outright and pay less per month Attachments:

We have Mint which gives us T-mobil service with 4GB of data for $15/ month or $180/ year. My youngest has similar to JB, $5/ month with unlimited talk and text but only 500 MB data.

Unfortunately, we have 3 main providers here in Canada and then they also own some discount providers which are still fairly expensive. We’d love to have some of the US deals up here. like you, my landline is part of my internet and TV bundle. The landline only costs me about $15 month and gives me free Canada and US long distance..

I don't wear a watch, don't have a cell phone. There's a clock in my vehicle and a few hanging around in the house. When there are times when I know that I won't be around a clock and I have, say, an appointment to keep, I'll put my 53 yr old Caravelle, which I received as gift when I was seven, in my pocket.

On the surface yes, but I've been through five batteries now in 3 years, so something's not right in the watch itself. Apart from its sentimental value, I doubt it's worth the expense of fixing.

Yeah that definitely isn't normal, most watch batteries last quite a few years...

Just curious, is anyone here into really expensive watches? Just my Movado which was a gift for my 50th birthday. Not a “really” expensive watch (like a Rolex) but about $800. I’ve inherited an Omega from my FIL and an Eterna from my dad. I’ve checked their values online and they’re around $1200 and $800 respectively. Other than those, I’ve got some Seiko watches and a Fossil (15 yr service watch). I mostly wear my Movado these days. The vintage Omega and Eterna are special occasion watches.

Yeah that definitely isn't normal, most watch batteries last quite a few years... I just replaced the battery in my Movado the other day and this is my 3rd battery in 15 years. Normally a battery lasts about 2-3 yrs. The two vintage watches that I have are both automatic (self winding).

Just curious, is anyone here into really expensive watches? The most expensive watch I have is by Tiffany. It was a 10-year gift at an IT job years ago. I like it - but find it small and a bit feminine so I don't often wear it. I would like a Submariner some day but probably not gonna happen.

Yeah that definitely isn't normal, most watch batteries last quite a few years... I took one of my watches in for a new strap about a month ago. It’s only a cheap Sekonda, but it belonged to my dad. Anyway, I asked the man to replace the battery at the same time. It said that’s going to be difficult, it’s a wind up watch😁
