The other day I was trying to think of all the stringboards I've tried.
For electric guitar I mostly use GHS Boomers, but I have tried many other brands than GHS,
So here's a list off the top of my head-some brands include different types within the brand. And I'm sure I missed some. Feel free to share your favourite brand or brands you have used...
GHS Ernie Ball Fender (Bullets, Super Bullets & Regular) Dean Markley Dunlop D'Addario Mohawk (Ancient strings that were at the music school I taught at) Elixir Rotosound Gibson Generic/Store brand DR
Add in acoustic/bass/classical and I can add in Augustine Adamas Martin Godin

But I'll play along anyway since this one is a bit broader in scope For acoustics I use Martin's. For bass rotosounds On banjos Deering On electrics I've tried D'Addarios, Dean Markley, Ernie Ball and my absolute least favorite Elixirs. But after trying Thomastik-Infelt I never put anything else on my guitars- they are that good

I’ve tried quite a few different brands in the last 45 years
Electric guitar: D’addario (round wounds and flat wounds) current favourite strings Rotosound -second favourite Gibson Dean Marley Fender (currently made by D'addario but more expensive) Ernie Ball Long and McQuade store brand (these are made by Dean Markley) GHS Boomers
Acoustic Guitar D’addario (current favourite) Martin Gibson Dean Markley Long and McQuade (Dean Markley) Sigma Elixers Ovation Adamas Black Diamond
Bass guitar Long and McQuade (I use these as they are cheap and decent) current favourite Fender Rotosound

for a while, I used GHS Boomers. however, some years back I went to a Gretsch Get-together in Kansas City. the Gretsch Guy Joe Carducci was there and always tries to give away some Gretsch things/stuff to us Gretsch guitar lovers. well, as a "door prize", Joe gave away some Gretsch guitar strings to the person that came from the furtherest distance. that person was me. I won a box of 9s and a box of 10s. so, I've been stocked up with guitar strings for a while now.
for my acoustic guitars, I like to use John Pearse slightly light strings. they are also phosphur bronze.

I gave a like even if you abandoned GHD But cool to win some strings I got a too small T shirt Which I gave to someone smaller And also I like phosphor bronze for acoustic guitar

I can just about use any string brand except those long life things (Elixir?) Tried most on the list apart from Mohawk, which were probably not available over here. When I had more guitars that I have now, I used to keep it fairly simple. Fender strings for FEnder guitars Gibson strings for Gibson guitars PRS strings for PRS guitars Now I mainly stick with Ernie Ball except for the bass which I can't remember what I bought and the spare set is stick in the case at the back of all the other cases

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Thomastik other than me. They don't JUST make jazz strings...

Now that's brand loyalty! At the time it seemed easier I find it easier to stick with one brand as I will buy them in bulk for my guitars. D’addario 10s or 11s on all my electrics. D’addario phosphor bronze 12s on my acoustics. Never had probs with the D’addarios.

My Jazzmasters and Strat have flat 11s and by archtops all have flat 13s. 12s on the rainsong acoustic

They aren't super common- I've never seen them in stores but I see them in many online shops. They are expensive too but I find they last a lot longer

I think expense keeps me away. I have too many guitars that require restringing. I buy my strings in larger quantities.

I buy my strings in larger quantities. one nice thing about having multiple guitars is if one needs a string change--play another. On the other hand if you're not careful --they all need a string change at the same time.

Too true! Although seriously I don't usually have issues with unwound strings breaking. It is always the wound ones that show signs of wear first

My son brought me his classical guitar last week to restring. I tried playing it beforehand and one of the strings was buzzing on the second fret. Upon closer inspection, he had worn thru the windings. I had never seen that before.

I've never seen a winding worn through on a classical--but I have had some very flat spots on mine That would definitely be time to change it.
