Ordered a bunch of DR Titefits from Strings and Beyond. A bit of a DarkFriday (just to appease the Communist Broadcasting Company up here in Chinada) discount but I still hate to pay for shipping I didn't used to have to. I just haven't found a better option while strings just keep wearing out. Ordered some DR Dragon Skin 11-50 coated Ph Brz to try on my resonator; never used them before. I put a National humbucker pickup on it and tried EB 11s nickle wound but they don't sound good and the unwound G string is too loud. I was using Elixir 11s Ph Brz before the pickup and they were Ok but the action is a little high so he DRs are lighter should be a bit easier to play. I don't want to mess with the biscuit to lower the action but if I had some sandpaper I probably would; mostly it's just that I don't want to go into a shop to buy sandpaper or anything else for that matter. Hopefully the wound G on the DRs will tame that pig of a pickup right good. Also ordered some 500k pots, telecaster knobs, a capacitor and some wire along with a nice philips TR adjustment tool for my Broadcaster. Gonna rifle some holes into the reso and put tone and vol pots on it. I spilled Goop Off into the reso guitar when I was cleaning some glue residue off it from the double sided tape for the pickup - now the guitar not only sounds like a tin can stuffed with oily rags it smells like one too. Reminds me of old gas in a lawn mower and a biscuit resonator is kinda related to a lawn mower in the same way that a banjo is related to a chain saw. Although at least the chain saw and the lawn mower have on/off switches.

Anyone ever tried Stringjoy strings? A local music store is pushing them right now and I was wondering if they are any good.

Anyone ever tried Stringjoy strings? A local music store is pushing them right now and I was wondering if they are any good. I've considered them as well--I had an email exchange about a custom set for my Archtop with a wound G, as well as set for my Mandobird--so I don't have to just buy 2 sets on guitar strings & have 2 extra strings per set And it would be cheaper to buy a customer set from them as opposed to that 2 sets or 8 individual strings. So next time I need strings for either, I may just give them a shot.

Let us know what ya think if you do it. They’re expensive up here. Electric strings are $15 and acoustic strings are $18. I can get 2 sets of D’addarios for each set of Stringjoys. I though someone here mentioned them in the past.

I can get 2 sets of D’addarios for each set of Stringjoys. I though someone here mentioned them in the past. I was looking at them for my Archtop & Mandobird, as they do custom sets. Right now I buy set of 10-52 & a single wound 17--which isn't easy to find--I may have to try a wound 18. But then I have a plan 17 I'm not likely to ever use. So spending a bit more on a set that comes with a wound G, and not having to spend extra for the other string (& not having a string I won't use as well) would be worth paying a little more--potentially Where it would really make a difference is a set for my Mandobird (8 strings)--as I can't find a set for electric mandolins I like. So I buy 2 sets of 10-46 and use 4 strings from each set--and have 4 extras (Although ones I might use) At first I had some 10-46 sets I got free--so while I use that gauge on my Les Paul, I had more than I would use for some time (& a different brand)--btu those are all used up so I'd need more strings for the next string change A custom 8 string mandobird set would cost me about the same as buying 2 sets of 10-46, or a bit less. But if I found a Canadian version I would check them out.

Also, have you ever thought of just buying 8 single strings in the gauges that you want? I think L&M sells them for about a buck apiece.

As this includes wound strings, they all cost more than that--so buying 8 individual strings would cost me more than what I am doing, and more than what I can get from StringJoy (I have priced it out)

They must have strings I have seen them before, but nothing on their website-but they weren't a solid body like the Mandobird (Which was discontinued before I got mine) Fender had one and that's been discontinued many years ago. The only solid body electric mandolins I know of are Eastwood. tehy do sell a set that aren't the exact gauges I use--but very close--but their sets cost more than I am paying now--and they want $33 to ship to Canada, so it doesn't make sense for strings. StringJoy or what I am doing is probably my best option right now. Unless I can find a good Canadian option. The only one I could find with individual strings in Canada was too much per string. So I have checked it out, but thanks for the suggestions
