Poor ol Maiden. They've always been dismissed as an overblown caricature because of the artwork, and image. I know the "galloping" rhythm bothers some folks but it's one of there signatures. I've been fond of them for years, in part because they are almost a progressive metal band. I was glad that Book Of Souls was really a great album. The Galloping Rhythm is Steve Harris doing. Them 3 finger bass playing hands lends it's self to that style. Was/is his band. Like yer good self. I love them.

It was the galloping iron maiden ride that I cut my teeth on learning to play fast when I was young. After I mastered lightning speed 16th's and triplets the work I put in on the gallop tied it all together. God bless Steve Harris. I couldn't play like that now to save my life.

Not to many "overblown caricature's" can UPGRADE to a 747-400. Sure, the whole Ed thing and the stage decor is a little cheesy but who gives a crap. Bruce makes it all work as a frontman that knows how to push the crowds buttons. But, we iron maiden fans know all this.

Bruce has always been able to get a crowd into the show.
I remember him blasting Ozzy for using teleprompters a few years ago.
An Iron Maiden show is something to behold. And, they back it up with the music. They are a great live band. It's great to see a band have so much fun doing what they do. Even on a bad night they're all smiles.

I've been reading reviews about last night's Ft. Lauderdale show. A whole bunch of idiots complaining about the setlist. I guess they didn't have enough "warhorses." Don't folks understand that Iron Maiden hasn't become a tribute band of its self.
Ft. Lauderdale setlist
01. If Eternity Should Fail 02. Speed Of Light 03. Children Of The Damned 04. Tears Of A Clown 05. The Red And The Black 06. The Trooper 07. Powerslave 08. Death Or Glory 09. The Book Of Souls 10. Hallowed Be Thy Name 11. Fear Of The Dark 12. Iron Maiden 13. The Number Of The Beast 14. Blood Brothers 15. Wasted Years

I guess I'm a Maiden fanboy. Yeah, me to. Went back and read some of the reviews and watched some concert footage. The footage I saw was classic maiden, man, I love those guys. As far as the reviews go, well, opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one.

It was covered by insurance. And, I'll bet the handlers at the Chilean air port are looking for work elsewhere. New engines were brought in from Europe.

I just finished watching a Youtube video of a Maiden show from Chile. Maiden is feckin' on fire this tour. Too, bad the audio sucked, or I'd put it up. Besides The Rolling Stones, these guys are one of the great live acts of all time. Even with a few clams here and there, they play with such precision, and put on a great show.

I've watched a couple South America shows on tv. I think one of them was Chile. The coverage of the show i.e. Onstage cameras......... was awesome. Like yourself I was blown away by their playing, you could have just put a CD player up there instead and would not have heard the difference, just incredible. Also, the size of the crowds attending the shows down there were mind blowing.

All the reviews I've read of The Book of Souls tour have been super positive. The reviewers can't believe how solid, and entertaining the shows are. It just proves that old guys can still rock.

Maidens one of those bands that never really messed with their recipe, Steve Harris made sure of that. What's great is that they appear to be having loads of fun.

Maiden is my favorite band. The only time I wasn't a HUGE fan was the Blaze era. I just couldn't get into him as I was with Di'anno and Dickinson. I think they need Adrian and Bruce (more Adrian) the music didn't sound like them. The Clansman was close and is a good song, but it sounds better live with Adrian thrown in the mix.
I know a lot of people disagree with me, but I do feel that The Final Frontier is one of their best.

I've never them in concert, by the slim chance they come my way I'll jump all over it. Like you I'm not a fan of everything they put out but most of it. The first maiden song I learned to play was the trooper, gallop training it was.

I taught lessons to a kid for awhile back in the 80s. I was actually pretty fast at the time. I was learning Gary Moore's metal stuff. This kid asked me to teach him some Yingie Mingie (Yngwie Malmsteen). That was a good laugh. The thing I remember about teaching was I was constantly having to learn myself. Those kids kept me on my toes. Was still a kid myself back then. That's the main reason that I teach, the kids you teach constantly keep you on your toes and force you to practice more than the bare minimum that you would normally do, but I will admit I don't enjoy teaching the 'beginners', I find teaching them to be slow, boring and sometimes painful.

I had forgotten that Maiden was playing in Toronto last night. If I had remembered, I could have gone down the road and gotten pictures of the plane. The airport is at the end of the street that my place backs onto (a couple of kilometers away though) and the part of the airport that is at the end of that street is where planes like Maiden's, the Concorde when it was still flying, etc. all get parked.
