Back in June 2018, we were asked to play a charity event in Cardiff. We have played a few charity gigs for a Cancer hospital in Cardiff, so jumped at the chance especially as Rhod Gilbert, who we had met when we played Belfast, would be compering this show.
Anyway here's a short compilation of our one hour set.
I have mentioned my James Trussart guitar here a couple of times, so you can see and hear it in action. I was plugged straight into my Boost head which drove 2 1x12 cabs. When swapping guitars, I didn't alter any controls on the amp, just used the controls on the guitars.
A couple of pics of me & the Trussart at the gig

looking good John. how many years have you had yhe Trussart ? I bought it off a friend in 2009. It was made on 20 Nov 2005 and my friend had ordered it new. Guitarist magazine found out he had ordered it and they asked to review it, which they did in May 2006. I think it was actually delivered to them before he had even a chance to see it. Anyway, he doesn't play in a band, he just likes guitars. He often buys, gets fed up and sells them. He paid around £2800 for it. Sold it to me for £1700 in Jan 2009. Having heard me play it at gigs, he regrets selling it.
Incidentally Guitarist included in their list of '50 Guitars to play before you die. No 10 on

At gigs I’m not really open to that. I’m sure everyone here has had someone come up while you were on a break at a gig and ask to try your guitar etc...that’s something I won’t do.

I look at it this way, if they want to play, set the gig up for themselves. it's your gig not their's.

One gig many years ago, a former co-worker of mine came to watch us. At the time I was using a guitar that I had built (parts caster but I had a local luthier cut the body and make the neck for me). Anyway, I knew my buddy played guitar and at the end of the night, he asked if he could try it. I knew the guy and so I said sure. He played it for about 5 minutes and when I went to put it away, I thought the neck felt a bit grungy. So I gave it a quick wipe down and figured I’d do a complete wipe down the next day at home. The next day, I pulled it out and gave the neck a good wipe down with polish but when I went to play it, the strings were totally dead! These were new strings before I played the gig and I can usually get 2 or 3 gigs out of a set. I found out later from another guitar playing friend of mine, who works at a Long and McQuade music store, that this guy has very sweaty hands and it’s acidic sweat. His sweat literally destroys strings! He said that when the guy would come into the store to try guitars, he had to go back and wipe down the necks after he left..
So would I let someone else play my guitar at a gig?.....after that experience, NO!

Yes, unless I know the person very well, I never let a person use my guitar at gigs. Anyway, as I'm the leader of the band, if anyone joined us, the other guitarist tends to drop out not me
