great song! I remember when I was young, you could take empty soda bottles to the corner store and get 2 cents per bottle. 3 cents for the large coca cola bottles. then you'd buy a candy bar with the money you just cashed in. of course, I'm talking about the late 50's/early 60's. yeah, I'm that old. ha ha

who is or who was your inspiration ?
many years ago(1969 or so), I bought a "Greatest Hits" album by Sam "Lightnin" Hopkins for $1.98. one of the best purchases I've ever made. here's some samples :
so, who influenced your "blues" playing ?
in order to get the thread back on track. who is or who was your inspiration ?
I learned a lot by playing along with Sam "lightnin" Hopkin's albums.

I would walk the ditches on our country roads for bottles and wait for a ride to town on Saturday to cash in.
i can still remember my daddy buying me a bottle of Coke and a bag of peanuts for less than 50cents.
IIRC...I started to get a $5 allowance when I was 12...there was about 20 hours per week of hard farm labor associated with that! Excellent prep for the world ahead.

I started downloading anything blues i could get my hands on during the early part of this century.
Muddy, Mississippi Fred,
Lighting Hopkins, BB King, Howlin` Wolf, Buddy Guy, Robert Johnson Spent a few years swimming in all that.
I`m not a lifelong musician like many here, so I can`t lay any claim to being accomplished, yet guitars have always haunted the hell out of me. I just can`t let them be, so here I am.

when I was a kid, a coca cola only cost a nickle(5 cents). and then it went up to 6 cents a bottle.

did you know that Skip James played in open D minor ? Yes I did read that somewhere.
“In other regional styles of Delta blues, you may have an open-tuned guitar where the minor gets introduced against the major chord,” says Ryan Lee Crosby, a Massachusetts-based blues artist who learned Bentonia blues from Jimmy “Duck” Holmes, the last living musical link to James.
“But in the Bentonia style, it’s a minor chord, where major notes get added on top, so the tension between the major and minor is inverted.”
This differentiator sets up the darker, minor-key sound of Bentonia standards, but there are also other structural differences – or, rather, a lack of structure, as there are no choruses and few turnarounds in Bentonia blues, and no set number of times to repeat a pattern."

Excellent...I`ve never used that tuning, only open G for the few times I`ve messed with slide.
I might give it a whirl.
Thanks for sharing the lesson Sgt. Rock.
nice cover...
