Welp, my TC Electronic BG250-112 blew up... Damnit.
It was a nice sounding amp, just for low volume home practice. Was sitting in the recliner with one of my fivers, had the bass volume off for several minutes and all of a sudden had a loud pop come thru the speaker and it's dead, Jim....
Cool little combo and had two Tone Print slots (memory locations). You could call up a tone print (effects code) on smart phone app, hold the phone close to pickups and hit the button and it would hash high freq for a second or two and you had a new chorus or some other effect loaded into the amp. Cool technology....
All that being said, I'm not even gonna send the thing out for repair. For what I paid for the combo, it would cost more with two way shipping, bench fee, etc., than a new head...
My buds that have played TC E amps have all had issues... Never again. Loved the amp but nawt. Track record with folks I know tell me Nawt Nawt Nawt..
I bought a Peavey Mini Max 500 brand new so cheap I felt guilty for a second......but then guilty was overcome with WIN! Cheaper than a srv ctr repair.
The TC ain't THAT good of an amp... So Peavey it is...
Everything I've read and seen says they are good amps...
For the TC combo cab, I've ordered a jack plate already and will change that two pin kinda sorta molex amp to cab connector to the jack plate I'll mount in back and pop the little Peavey amp on top.
Freaky in that the little Peavey is 500W.... I may accidently blow that cheap speaker in the TC de-combo'd cab but if I do I'll put a high wattage Emi or EV bass 12" in it....One and done...
The TC combo was rated at only 250w. I would guess that 250w is just on a good day when we make full contact with martians, Pat Paulsen finally gets elected Prez, and they find a wild herd of purple unicorns riding skateboards in Jersey... Otherwise, I might believe a hunnert watts....maybe if you hold your mouth just right...
I've got the GK full stack with the GK 1001 amp and my old Fender Bassman 135 but those are a bit much for an unobtrusive bass amp over the corner of the den....
I'll report back on the Peavey Mini Max after I play through it for a bit after it comes in... Nice sounding amp from vids and reviews are good... and it's tiny for 500W... Comes with a cute little carry bag for it....
