I finally decided that my Vintage Modern 2266C wasn't the right Marshall for me so I sold it earlier this week. The guy who bought it hangs out at the same music store as I do and is a complete douche so I don't feel at all bad about making $300 profit on the amp.
I decided that I wanted a JMP or JCM800 and had a couple of 800s lined up, but those deals fell through and the prices on the others available in this area were stupid. Then I decided to contact a friend of mine who used to work at the guitar shop to see if he would finally agree to sell me his, especially since he has a Friedman, and to my surprise he did! He was thinking about listing it for sale and has offered it to me for far less than he would have listed it for, so I am getting it for $1000. I wanted a 50 watter but his is a 100 watter. Since it has a master volume I can live with the extra wattage or I can just pull two power tubes to take it down to 50 watts. It is an early '80s version with the metal toggle switches, and apparently the model number is 2203 (Marshall model numbers confuse me). He also has a 2x12 PRS cab that he uses with it and he has offered me that as well, but I haven't decided about the cab. Our mutual friend the guitar tech put new grill cloth on it to match the Marshall so, depending on what speakers are in it, I might decide to buy it too. But the store that he used to work at, and at which I hang out, is moving locations in January so they will be having a big sale to get rid of shit so that they don't have to move it so I might wait and see what they have.
Since I am doing this deal with a friend there is no rush, and we'll just meet whenever both of our schedules allow (probably next weekend if he makes it to his band's rehearsal space where he has it stored).
I have a list of '80s metal songs to play on this beast when I get it!!!!!!!!!!
Even though I won't have it for a week or two, here are some pics he sent me:
