Couldn't help myself and bought a new Steinberger Spirit XT-25 five string bass.... Gibson owns em so I figured HenryJ will kill em off before long so I jumped on one...
I didn't much care for the first ones (synthetic) that came through the company I worked with back then. They had the weird ass mid hump in the tone spectrum... Skidney probably remembers...
The new ones like mine are all maple neck-thru with rosewood board...
Damn nice bass. Very happy with it. Tone knob curve is a bit odd but I don't much use tone knobs much...
The two EMG passive humbuckers sound great. No complaints there either.
I lowered the action and it plays like a freaking dream. Perfect for practicing while recliner surfing because of size.
I would gig this bass in a heartbeat. Damn good instrument....damn good.... Sounds great!
Happy camper!

I could never get past the way those look. I've known people over the years that have used them and love them. Never tried one myself.

Well, the color of it makes it look pretty sharp. Still, an odd bird.

Yep, an odd one, but a damn good one... Several buds have played it and kinda freaked at how it plays and sounds...
Being an all Maple build, it is both ballsy and punchy...Heavy too....
Glad I got one before they're history. I've read several places that HenryJ is killing the line. Dumbassery....
If that is true and I suspect it is, I'm glad I got one and if companies start dumping them cheap, I'll probably buy another for my son that plays...
Fun to kick back in the recliner and practice. Lot more compact than the big ass Ray or Dimension fivers I have....

I worked on the action more... Laid the neck down, tweaked height and intonation.... Damn thing plays like a dream now... Sustains like hell....
Very glad I snagged one... Everybody I've talked to about stuff for it thinks they aren't long for this world... HenryJ fittin to strike again...

I remember when those first came out, seemed more like a gimmick then anything else. I thought they wouldn't be around long, how wrong I was. Not only have they hung around, over the years I've seen them in the hands of some famous players.

For those that don't give a damn, here's a bit of an update on the Steiny... Damn good bass and getting better as it is played more... I bought a string adapter as the stock skrangs which I think were Steinberger didn't last too long... I didn't want to be pigeonholed into using double ball skrangs.... I know have NYXLs on it and they are da cheeze. Not as bright as the Dunlop Super Brights but more balanced across the spectrum. The feel is a bit stiffer on the low B which I like. DSBs were super easy to play but the B was borderline floppy. I play bass with a soft touch so it wasn't a big issue. My partner had NYXLs on his PJ and I was sold once I played his bass... Anyway, below are pics of the adapter. You change nuttin on the bass. String tension holds it firm. It ain't going nowhere. Now I can use ANY regular bass string on it.... One brand of strings for all my basses now which is cool... Damn fun bass to play...

I didn't know you could only use double ball strings on those, but then again, I have never seen one up close. Anyway, that was a good upgrade, looks pretty good to.

Five strings, alas you have trouble with four.

I'm getting the hang of it.... If I stomp real hard with my right foot, I can almost play on the beat some of the time...
