I've always been interested in the Marshall JTM45 and a little over a month I I finally found a Reissue from 1991 at a decent price. New tubes, new filter caps and it was almost up to speed. Unfortunately I had to replace the tube sockets too - they cost next to nothing, but are rather labour extensive. I made a small mistake, but it took me some time to figure it out. My eyes are getting old, and I'll never solder anything without a magnifying glass ever again At the moment I'm playing it through my 1x12 with a 30w Celestion G12H with an attenuator between. I hope to get a 2x12 Marshall 1936 with Greenbacks soonish though. I'm very happy with it

Dude, fuck yes. I've always wanted one - still do. Thankfully it's getting easy to find JTM45 RIs and repros thanks to the boutique boom. Anyway, there's nothing like pushing a tube rectified amp.

Regarding your speakers, I quite like the H models but an M speaker (Greenback) or a Blue would probably suit it better. Tho the blues are a much different sound. It's a matter of taste. The H is maybe a tad stiff for the old-school jtm45 on record sound, ala Beano etc... Great for harder rock though. What tubes are you running there, man? 5881s, or KT66?

I think the G12H is great in an open/semi open back cabinet, but yes it is tight and somewhat bright. The 2x12 Marshall 1936 cabinet usually comes with G12T-75s or Vintage 30s, but Andertons in UK can get them from the factory with Greenbacks. Perfect! I have Tung Sol RI 5881s in it and they sound great. The Drake power transformer (early reissues had Drakes) can power KT66s, so i may try those at some point.

5881s are a fine sounding tube. I prefer them to 6L6s.
