My Soul Food came in this morning. I like it a lot. Played my Hamer Monaco through it, played with all the knobs and such...
It is pretty transparent.
I janked each knob independently and they do what they say they do very well.
The Volume (boost) drop kicked the preamp in the amp nicely. Me likey long time.
The Treble knob does as advertised. Very cool on neck pickup to make it really SpankyStank. Me likey long time.
The Gain works great, love the sound, doesn't go full thermonuclear which is good. Me likey long time.
All in all, the Soul Food pedal gets a full three Me Likeys!
I recommend it. I became interested after hearing a comparison with it and a vintage Klon. ( Don't get me started on that $2000+ Klon price bulltish though)
Nice pedal. Will keep it....

Three "me likey's"? That's equivalent to five stars isn't it?

Not sure if I'll ever come back so far as to start buying pedals again but I'll keep that one in mind.

Thanks for the comments on this pedal, it is one that I have been considering for a while now.

I like it a lot, Col... Nice pedal. Does what the insanely expensive ones do just as well...
I have always been mystified how a pedal where the most expensive part is either the case or the kick button can cost so much. Many of them are just copies of other ones...
Reisistors, caps, small inductors, diodes, transistors, etc. don't cost crap...neither do op amps, etc....
I used to by components in lots of 500 to a thousand... Cheap as hell.

The other guitarist in my kid's band has one. I haven't tried it, but it sounds pretty good with his rig. I'll have to steal it an see what it does with my setup. As I understand it, it's neck and neck with the Bad Monkey in the "bang for the buck" category.

I might be grabbing a Bad Monkey soon. The guy who has it lives a ways away so I have to wait until the next time he is in town.
Anyway, while waiting I posted an ad on Craigslist looking for one. Two people contacted me - one with a used version and the other with a NIB one. Both of them were asking $100 for the fucking thing. I guess because it is discontinued they think that a $45 pedal is now worth more than double its original price. What those idiots don't seem to realize is that our biggest gear retailer still has them in stock new and, although the price has gone up because our dollar is currently down, they still only cost $60 brand new.
Another option for cheap pedals that are supposedly very good is Joyo. Apparently their versions of the OCD and Tube Screamer are excellent pedals.

Joyo has built more stuff than folks know about... not all in "their" name.... I've heard good things about Joyo pedals... and they're cheap...
A damn op amp is an op amp, etc., no matter how fancy the box is wrapped around it... Some prices are a joke...

Lots of sniffery in pedals too...probably more than Lesters...

I want a Soul Food.. I have a Joyo Vintage Overdrive and it's pretty good. I also have a Caline Orange Burst another cheap pedal and I like this one as well. I'm not a pedal cork sniffer and I think that a lot of these "cheap" pedals are great. I have a several Donner's and think they are great pedals. This guy puts it perspective. I'm pretty sure some of you might have seen this. It's an hour long, but if you have it time to kill it's pretty good. F bombs are dropped I'd be curious to see the video of the Gibson factory that he mentioned in his video. That whole fiasco was hilarious.

I think this is the one he is talking about. I would like to read Sarah's article about the components. He starts to mention her name but doesn't finish her last name.

Although not necessarily cheap when new, Boss pedals can be found cheap on the used market because there are so damned many of them out there. In my admittedly limited experience, I think they make good stuff. I am not sure why so many people are down on their pedals. Maybe they have more experience with them than I do and thus have reason to dislike them, or maybe it is just cork sniffery.

Lots of Boss pedals are pretty great. I didn't get along with the buffers, but the effects did sound really well. I had a Blues Driver, Tremolo and DD-6. The BD was pretty ok, but I wanted the Fulldrive at some point at gave to a friend that's till loves it and gigs it regularly for 5-6yrs now. The Tremolo had a fantastic shape to it, but it had that volume drop that the TR-2 was infamous for. The DD-6 is fun to mess around with and I use it as kind of a fly rig for the lapsteel (along with the TR-2), but it's a little cold, as a straight up delay, so it's since been displaced by the Echo Puss. But Boss is solid; it's on pro boards everywhere.

I have a Soul Food and it sounded good with my Blues Deluxe - me likey. But I don't find overdrive voicing to go that well with my Laney or Marshall - not bad, but no cigar and me likey Still good for cleanish boost and tightening up - me likey. Looks like the price have gone up quite some lately. Was rather cheap in the beginning. So only two Me Likeys from me Boss pedals aren't bad, but I never bonded with my Boss Compressor. It tended to become rather noisy even on the more subtle settings, and I think the buffer screwed with my other pedals.
