I've been working with Ian Anderson from link on a set of P90's to fit a Humbucker route. He is developing something special that I truly hope blows me away! Here is a quote "I have an exciting new discovery and I will be making a true P90 that fits in the humbucker chassis using the exact vintage coil geometry!" They have custom fabricated bobbins...and a short spec. "Vintage p90 spec around 8k and 7.6k, Alnico 2, 42 gauge plain enamel wire" They should ship to me this week and I will install, test and report... He offered to make these in Black, White, Cream or Tortoise Shell. I chose Cream to match the rst of my plastics.

Those are beautiful!! You'll definitely have to report when you get them in! I've been wanting something with P90's for a long time.

They are rather sexy, will they be available for flat tops like juniors that have been routed for humbuckers, so that they can be fitted with P90's again?

I'm not sure what configurations they will be available for? The winder has been working on these exclusively for me for the past month. He thinks he's hit upon a great idea and is going to make these part of his lineup. I'll be getting the first set ever wound in this configuration...

Yes, they are. I started discussing this with him a couple months ago and he started developing these for me. He feels he discovered something special here while working on my set. I asked him if I could post about them prior to his announcement and he said of course. The real test will be when I get them in my hands. I believe mine are on the way.
Ian fabricated a new style bobbin for these because there was nothing commercially available. He has been great to work with, but the proof will be in the pudding when I try them out.
I'm hoping they are everything he says they are. He has a good reputation in the pick up building arena as far as I was able to tell.

Hmm, indeed.
A little while back I played a used Epi Casino that was a decent price--but my gear fund ia bit depleted Maybe if I see or trade some stuff? Maybe if I get given some cash or pre paid cards or gift cards for Christmas--and nobody else has bought it?
(For all I know it's been sold)
The big selling point on it was the P-90s--really suited a lot of suff I play.

I am really intrigued with P-90's lately, I have never had a guitar with P-90s, I have a Ephiphone Jr that I put a GFS P-90 that fits into a humbucker route and just picked up some P-Rails that I want to play with. Still not real P-90s.

I’ve got P90s on my Les Paul Melody Maker and these things are alive….a single coil on steroids. It’s my only P90 guitar and although I may be selling it, I’m looking at how I can get that P90 sound in one of my other guitars. The humbucker sized P90s are something to think about.

I put a Guitarfetish GFS Dream p-90 in a epi Jr. In a humbucker hole. I do not own another P-90 so I have nothing to compare it to a real P-90, I do really like it.

I had a Tele partscaster that started out with a set of Rickenbacker Toasters that I ended up replacing because they didn't physically fit the guitar well. I replaced them with a set of humbucker-sized P90's because they were the closest fit to what I took out. They sounded so-so, but I didn't think they captured the real essence of a true P90 pickup.

Never heard of humbucker size p90’s, other then size, what’s the difference?

<button disabled="" class="c-attachment-insert--linked o-btn--sm">Attachment Deleted</button> Never heard of humbucker size p90’s, other then size, what’s the difference? This very topic is discussed frequently by the "internet experts" at great length. I can not provide any expertise on this subject as I have never had a guitar in it with real P-90's. I suspect many of them have not either!

The comment I hear most frequently is that the magnet size/shape/profile is the most significant factor in the character of a P90 and that the hum-size format generally misses the mark because the magnetic field is different than the typical soapbar design of most P90 pickups.

Wow, it looks like a p-90 incased in a metal jacket, sort of. What spell was saying above about the magnet makes sense. I have p-90’s in my lp special and that guitar sounds great, the p-90 has a very distinct sound, easy to identify. Calling the other a p-94 or something else makes more sense to me.
