And hopefully this will kick off some pickguard on/off discussion, as that's always a pleasure.

It needs a pick guard, and a genuine gorilla butt hair strap.

I'm gonna weave a strap when I shave my beard. It's very similar to gorilla butt hair, but less red tape.

You don't need to kill the gorilla, just give Sid some tweezers, and a few quid.

Some ether, too, I would imagine. Otherwise he won't get past the first pluck without getting his head caved in by a legitimately butt hurt gorilla.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Guilds, and I must say that I love their headstock design, and their logo lay out.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Guilds, and I must say that I love their headstock design, and their logo lay out. One of my good friends bought a 70-something Guild something-or-other (acoustic) and it sounds amazing umplugged. Plugged in, I think it sounds like a guitar being played on the other end of an international telephone call. Don't tell him.

And I agree about the headstock! It looks like the top of an old theatre.

And I agree about the headstock! It looks like the top of an old theatre. It has a real classic design about it, and I agree with you about Guild sounding bad plugged in, they need to be mic'ed, they sound amazing when mic'ed or acoustically, but the electronics that they use really leave a lot to be desired.

Yeah, something about it just sounds awful when he plugs it in. The electronics aren't factory; they're LR Baggs (I'm pretty sure) and I've never heard a bad Baggs pickup. I love mine, my wife loves hers and my friend's Gibson sounds great with his Baggs. So I don't think it's the pickup; I think it might be how he runs the preamp. Every time he plays that one I cringe. But I love playing that guitar. In a living room, its great for folk.

Mine actually came with one, but it was curling up all the way around the edge, so I took it off, removed the residue and didn't look back.

Me too, for the most part. My wife's Collings didn't come with one, but it's a hog top 002, and I think it looks great that way. My J30 definitely would look silly without it, not to mention I would murder the wood on it. I've developed a touch for my electric; the acoustic, not so much. She wants to get a guard made for it, but I like how loose the top feels and I don't want anything messing with that. Plus I don't want to pay money for it. (I bought her a Collings but somehow remained a cheap-ass....)

love my old Guild. bought in 76-77 if i remember at the Richmond Trading Post on Church in Toronto? i've dragged this all over the world...literally. replaced the tuners, had the bridge reset, twice. has a saddle pickup. the arch back is just fantastic. i love it so much i bought a used Calton case for it. the case is probably worth as much as the guitar...
