I recently bought a Class 5 that turned out to have issues so I was in the market for something else. I was planning to wait until the chain that I deal with had their inventory blowout sale on the 12th and 13th of February but I discovered that one of their locations had a used model of an amp that had long interested me in stock for a very good price and I ordered it this evening. So I now have a Traynor YGM3 Reissue making its way to me.
I had been convinced that a Deluxe Reverb would be my next amp but that is basically what the YGM3 is - Traynor's version of the Deluxe Reverb. They are made in Canada, hand wired reissues of the classic '60s & '70s model. They sourced the transformers from the same company that supplied them back then, the grill cloth from the original supplier, etc. so I think that it is as true a reissue as one can get. The vintage ones are plentiful where I live but people have realized that they are desirable amps so prices have shot up in the last few years and I am getting this cheaper than I could an original.
A friend who works as a sales guy at my local store called the other location and ordered it for me. When he spoke to them they said that it was "well used". A quick discussion determined that the wear didn't matter so long as the guts are OK as cosmetic issues can be repaired. They originally sold for $1200-$1400 and I am getting this one for $499. At that price for a hand wired amp you have to expect some cosmetic issues. And since those don't affect its playability, who gives a shit right?
In order to get overdrive at reasonable volumes I am going to need pedals so this purchase has just led me down another rabbit hole.............
I am on my laptop and it has typical crappy little laptop speakers so I cannot tell how close these videos are to the true sound of the amp but, for those who aren't familiar with them, here is a taste (the second one is from a member at MLP):

Stoked! There are a few brands that I've wanted to try out, and that's one of them. I've still never played through an Ampeg or (ready??... ) Vox. For the longest time, I've liked what I liked and never ventured out because "Why would I?", but I've been opening up a little in the last few years. I bought my JCM800 almost 20yrs ago and it's been my only amp until I built mine about 2yrs ago. Sounds like you got hooked up on this one! Pics man!! Pics!! Gutshots!!

For the longest time, I've liked what I liked and never ventured out because "Why would I?", but I've been opening up a little in the last few years. I was always of the mind that I liked British voiced amps, until I tried a DRRI. The YGM3 has a Vox/Marshall thing going on until you flick its bright switch at which point it is very much a Deluxe Reverb. My buddy the sales guy said they might have different tubes, but these are Deluxes. Once she arrives I will take some and post them. My Class 5 is actually out on repair. I will get a refund on that and apply the money to the Traynor. But they didn't do that at the store yesterday because Will said it is easier to do the refund when the amp isn't listed in the computer as being on repair. Since the Traynor has to be shipped from the other side of the city, and its arrival will depend on each store's pick-up and delivery days, I just shrugged and said 'whatever works'. If the Traynor arrives before the Marshall comes back we can process the refund right away so that I can bring it home.

So the YGM3 has arrived at the store. I checked it out tonight and it does have some nicks and small tears in the tolex but its issues are all cosmetic so who gives a shit - I can always have it recovered if I really wanted to. For the price, I can live with some cosmetic issues for a hand wired amp that is built right here in Canada.
I am just waiting for the Class 5 to come back from repair as it can be a real pain in the ass for them to do a refund on an item that is out for repair...the computer system just doesn't play well when doing a transaction like that. Waiting is no big deal and if it hasn't come back by the end of this coming week they will just go ahead and process the refund anyway (they offered to do it tonight but I told them not to bother).
Now I just have to find an overdrive pedal to go with the amp. I was going to grab a Fulltone OCD that came in on trade while I was there, but it was left on the counter while I was checking out the amp and someone else scooped it. Oh well, their inventory blowout sale takes place in about two weeks and I assume there will be some pedal deals available so I don't mind holding off until then (the lists of what is available at each store should be showing up soon).

Yeah they are great amps. I am still waiting for the Marshall to come back from repair. If it hasn't arrived by early next week they will just process the refund so that I can bring the Traynor home.

I have the YGM3 home as a loner at the moment and it turns out that it is ridiculously loud for my needs. I knew the vintage Traynors were moronically loud but for some reason expected this one to be a bit quieter. I was playing it last night and only brief got it up to '2' on the volume. Most of the time I was playing with it on '1'. There isn't much point in having an amp that I have to keep turned down that low. That being said, it does sound great.
I think I might go for a Traynor YGL1 Reissue instead. They are 15 watters and have a master volume so are easily tamed. The chain I deal with has their annual inventory blowout sale this weekend. If my store puts the YGL1s that they have on sale for a good price I will snag one. If not, I will wait to see if any of the ones that other locations have survive the sale. If they do, I will have one transferred in for me.
