ok, so, the story i told in the other thread...that kramer vee i mentioned? with the version 1 floyd rose? within a few months i learned that i HATED that guitar. in all the many i have owned (quite a few, i'm not sure i could count them all) that vee is the only one i truly hated. of course, my guitar was long sold by then, and the store wasn't going to tell me who bought it. i bought various guitars here and there, some pretty cool ones, but nothing came close to that first guitar. i kept my eyes open for another one, but they just weren't out there. as the years rolled on, i always kept it in my mind. like i said i only saw a couple of others that were sunburst like mine was, and only one of those had the switching mine had. finally i found this one
1981 westbury deluxe. it's a vox guitar, a matsumoku. it has the dimarzio pick ups, stock tuners with the logo on them, still has the original case. it's functional, but not pretty anymore. it needs some tlc. the neck is similar to my lp in width and taper, but the back of it is shallower in your palm. with those pick ups, it's a rock machine. you can clean it up with the volume knobs, but it's happier when it's screaming. it's comfortale to play, but it's not lite. i haven't weighed it, because i don't have a scale. but it's probably the heaviest guitar i have. it's balanced well, and comfortable to play, the neck will need some massaging. there are a couple high spots, and a weird scratchy spot way up high on the neck. for it's age, it's in really good shape.
now, for guitar 2, i was watching a youtuber named "guitarmax" who reviews alot of inexpensive guitars. he did a review on a firefly tele for $179. it has a satin neck, stainless frets, and locking tuners. i thought, at that price, why not try one out? if it sucks i can send it back or put it on the wall. well, it arrived after only 7 days, and it TOTALLY does not suck!!! this guitar is pretty nice, especially for the money. which, btw, was even cheaper because i got a black friday deal that knocked it down to $149. i gotta tell you, i am blown away by how nice this guitar is for the money i spent.
also, when i sent a pic of the westbury to my little brother he said to me "want to see another blast from the past? i dug this out of the closet the other day and cleaned it up, re strung it..." he then showed me a pic of HIS first guitar, that i gave him. it's as old we the westbury at least. maybe even a little older. also a pretty cool guitar, and i don't remember seeing any others like it in the years since, although i haven't been looking for one. as soon as i saw it, it brought back alot of memories. it's a skylark sold by jc penney. also matsumoku guitar.
