Unaccounted for maintenance costs for example... $70.00 for 9 0z. of oil to treat the only open pore neck I own. Website says that`s enough for 400 sq.ft. So I guess I`m good to hydrate this one neck about 400 times. It is the slickest neck I`ve owned however.

It just wants me to get another tele, but really can't justify it. I don't play enough and I have others collecting dust. I think about letting go of some of them then I talk myself out of it.

I hear you... I`m in a buying mood right now as well it seems. Got the impulse satiated with a $150.00 order from Solo. Going to change a capacitor value and replace a couple of tone pots on the blue one in the pic below... I have 3 acoustics i`m trying to convince myself to sell as well. A HD28V, D18V and a J-45TV. It`s hard to let them go for sure...

That neck turned out nice. Dark oil? or just a lot of coats?

Two coats with a little friction heat during the polishing between coats.
The Odies oil turns into a dark lemon color once it`s mixed and makes the guitar smell fantastic...and super slick.
I don`t have alot of confidence working with the oil yet. The manufacturer and the guy who shaped the neck for me make alot of warnings about using too much and creating a tacky surface....so far, so good for me.

How does it compare with Tung oil (if you've ever used that, that is)? I picked up a tin last week by accident thinking it was Tru oil. Unfortunately, I opened it for testing on scrap. So, no return. I'm thinking, stain the guitar first or can I add a tint to the oil direct?

I'm thinking, stain the guitar first or can I add a tint to the oil direct? I just read that "Odies Oil" is just Tung oil with some extra"secret" additives. I avoided an oil rubbed body casue i wanted a burst, so I`m not alot of help. I watched a couple of short videos at the Odies oil site before I went near my neck. Pretty simple really. The only concern being not to use too much and get the excess off before it goes tacky. It ain`t a deal breaker, from what I understand if you wait tooo long, or use too much it`s just more elbow grease. Would love to see how it turns out if you take a crack at refin on a body...

I started with this; Top's been painted cream with a faux binding line. No pic of that. It's currently at a friend's place getting wired up.

You`re doing that guitar a huge favor ...and it looks like it`s worth the effort. Looking forward to seeing more pics as it comes together if you have the time.
