Yeah...too bad really. Looking at it one way, the HSS may have been a fine guitar, I would have spent alot less and wouldn`t have to worry about a fine instrument being handled by the apes at Canada Post.
Yet, when I saw the photos of the one I ended up buying, that little dude in the back of my mind whispered, "Dude, you`re in trouble. You`re actually looking at a guitar, but what you`re seeing is that super hot german girl you used to date! Snap out of it!" But it was toooo late. I was already beyond reach.

So I bought a strat on GC yesterday. Open my email this morning and the dude who I made an offer to last week said..."Yeah well I got busy last weekend. $1200.00 will be fine". Looks like 2 x NGD

Well...the drama continues. Paid a premium price for a premium used strat to discover that the finish damage is extensive, it didn`t show in the pics and I bought site unseen. He mentioned a few dings and that was what the photos showed. However, With the guitar in hand it becomes much more pronounced.
When I look at the back of the guitar in the sellers pics...well I don`t see the 6" long dark circular scratches that are on the back of the one that showed up at Canada Post. Chips that have been poorly refinished and not mentioned. Dents where I can seeunfinished wood around the edge of the dent....and the fuckin` thing needs to have the frets leveled crowned and polished.
I texted the owner, then wrote a reply in our pm sale thread asking for a full refund. He read it, but I got no response. Called him and he didn`t take the call. I told him i was really disappointed, but I was polite, told him why I wanted my money back.
I`m out $2100.00 plus shipping, on a guitar that might be worth 1700.00 to a guy who cares not about how it looks...and that`s being generous.
24 hours until reputation decimation in the for sale section at GC.
EDIT:I`ve decided against creating a shit show in public at GC. I have decided not to use the forum buy & sell or ever buy site unseen again.
i PM`ed a couple of long time members with good reputations explaining the situation. They want me to do something. Well the link to the ad is in this thread ....that`s something.
The people i respect are mostly here.
I owe the membership at GC nothing.
Their members lurk here anyways.

I hope the mother fucker car engine throws a fucking rod. Fuck him. It might not be over yet... Plugged it in last night...the jack is noisy AF but not loose, so I`m gonna tear it down to confirm that the body, pickups and neck are legitimate. If they are, great, if not, then i`ll be taking pictures and calling Fender for confirmation regarding markings. If the neck or body isn`t legit, then it will be time to talk with the mods at GC. The money i spent is history. I don`t expect any kind of compensation at this point....People could argue over scratches that were photoshopped out of the image, but if the neck and body don`t have markings then that`s another level of dishonesty.+ EDIT: Took it apart yesterday to confirm that the neck body and pups were legit. Looks okay. Lots of stickers and date stamps indicating a 57/62. Back of the pups same color as custom shop 57/62 with the beveled pole pieces. Took lots of measurements, and did a level crown and polish on the frets, as there was a flat spot under the g-string I had to chase up to the 13th fret. Neck relief was .024"...lol, should be maybe .009, made an adjustment, will do another adjustment in a couple of weeks. The guitar has been travelling and I don`t know the humidity levels in the house of the dude I bought it from so not gonna rush it. Still have to fine tune the nut as it`s alittle high too. Hydrated the fret board. Can`t fix the jack, got a new one on order. Took lots of pics but reducing file size on all to post is a pain so....

Thanks Bill... So far I`ve discovered a partial fre-ret job(file marks present on fret ends up to the twelth fret), an unfinished nut, a bad jack and a really poor set-up. I`ve done a fret level and polish, cleaned and oiled the board, removed .018" of neck relief. Going to replace the jack and finish the nut on Monday. This is a really nice Strat that got abused, and suffered from less than stellar repair work. I`ve played it for about 6 hours. The neck is great now that`s it`s set up....fast and flat. I like the way it sounds with my equipment. ...and yes i agree with you. The guy I bought it from isn`t anyone I would do repeat business with. Thought about making a big show out if this, but it wouldn`t be worth the trouble to me.

My Les Paul doesn’t seem to like being tuned down a half tone with 11s. Too muddy when tuned down but has fat ass tone in standard tuning with 10.5s. Have to use the Broadcaster again which works but I wanted to try the LP on the Skynyrd lead stuff.

What prevents you playing in standard tuning with 10.5s? !/2 step down suits your singing maybe?

What prevents you playing in standard tuning with 10.5s? !/2 step down suits your singing maybe? The songs I sing are in standard but the other singer is half tone down and he does a bunch of songs that I’m happy to play lead on. So I take two electrics, one tuned to E flat. Also take an acoustic in standard as well as two amps and a load of other shit which is a nuisance to transport...lol The LP is too sloppy tuned down with 10.5s. Strange though that the LP and 335 have identical action and scale length but the 335 seems to have more string tension with 10s on it than the LP has with 10.5s. I usually put 9.5 on the Broadcaster but with its longer scale length I can tune down with 10s and it works ok. Probably better to take the Fender anyway because the other two guitar players have humbuckers and the Broadcaster cuts through them better on lead parts. The LP sounds to dark tuned down with 11s. Wanted to take the LP though bcs I like playing it. Could probably get away with tuning the 335 down because it is harder to play so wouldn’t be as sloppy and has brighter tone than the LP so should cut but I like using the 335 for vocals. BTW. I post from my phone which makes this forum harder to navigate than others and somehow I thought I was posting in a general discussion thread. So I apologize for hijacking the thread a bit..lol.

It`s just nice to see some conversation regarding guitars no matter what thread it appears in. Thanks for the response as mostly I learn a great deal musically from you guys who gig regularly. You talk about the LP and 335 having the same scale and action, yet more tension on the 335. Here`s a similar puzzle. I have a HD-28V and a D-18V. Both have exactly the same set up including string height at the nut and saddle. Same strings, same tuning. The D-18V takes more effort ,and it`s obvious everytime I pick it up. It isn`t bad, it`s just a little more. I have no answer for that.

They feel about the same although the wider neck on the 18 makes it easier to navigate however the 28V is the go to because it’s the most reliable insofaras it works best with my voice unplugged no PA etc. it’s kinda like a mix and some acoustic guitars will fight you for space; you can kinda feel them pushing back sometimes. Same to some extent with electrics; I find that humbucker guitars get under my voice better. Just to clarify. I don’t gig but play a lot and go to jams and open mics. Theres a lot of that where I live. Could do open mics pretty much any weeknight and a jam somewhere on Saturday afternoon. Not doing open mics so much post 19. I seem to be gradually switching more to electric even though acoustic/vocal is my main area. Open mics are busy this year and seem to have an audience other than just the players but lookin at them seems they want to hear the “hits” along with them blue eyes cryin in the rain whereas most of my songs are about cracked windshields, broken motors, busted lives and there’s some fucker shot dead by the second verse .. lol Was in a regular jam band last summer but I quit doing it when they started to gravitate towards yacht rock and that kinda shit. No way I’m blowing my ears out playing that crap…lol

You`re an artist man...do what ya do.
And thanks for sharing your experience.
Dudes or ladies who sit down and tell stories with a simple chord progression in the background....timeless and pricelss when done well IMO.
Some of my favorite stuff.

Sweet axe. Thanks....It`s getting no play time but it is a killer in my opinion. The thing vibrates like mad unplugged she`s a very lively axe. When ya think about it, it should be. The neck is torrified and the finish makes the outside pores even more hard. The body is ash. When I did the neck fitting I used a method where you apply chalk to the area you`re working on, and sand where the chalk gets removed during a trial fitting. In other words, the neck is packed in there scary tight and I wasn`t shy with the foot lbs. on the screws either. I don`t know if any of that makes any difference, but it can`t hurt. I can`t believe how much I`ve bonded with that strat I got fucked on. It`s why the tele`s getting no play time. It`s like it was a "meant to be" thing. Wonder if the shine will ever wear off. One thing for certain. I need no more single coil guitars.

Ran into a guy i`ve been talking with ocassionally while out on my walks. He gigs with a Stones cover band and seems like a cool dude.
Asked him if he would test drive my tele to ensure I`m getting the most out of my pups. So I meet him at his house to exchange contact info for a leter date, and here he comes out of the house holding a lemon top Les Paul from 2012.
"Thought you might consider a swap on this with you`re D-18V" he says.
First time I`ve held a L.P. ...
I wasn`t looking for another guitar, but...
