so, back in may, my little sister calls me. she says she talked to an old friend of mine i haven't seen in decades. he wants to catch up. i think "ok, cool, it would be nice to talk to him again after all these years." he was the lead guitarist in my first working band back in the 80's. so he calls me, and ends up coming by the house. he's all fucked up now with back problems, living in a shelter. he tells me the state will pay my asking price for rent if i let him move in. so, on 3 separate occasions i go to this homeless shelter to talk to administrators and fill out paperwork. in between that there are calls and emails, filling out forms on a website. it was a fair amount of work on my end to make this happen. the way the state sold this to me was that every month the money would deposit direct into my account. they also promised to pay a security deposit. he spent the month of june moving junk into my basement. he didn't actually begin staying here until july1.
i told him to put his stuff to one side of the column line, i wanted a clear shot to the heater, so i can change the filter. he actually rents the 2 rooms upstairs. he doesn't sleep there though. he lives in his van like randy quaid in christmas vacation. there isn't much up in those rooms. it's every where else in my house. he even has a shotgun in my safe. there is packaged food in bags on the floor next to my prepper shelf, of which he has taken most of the space. his guitar sits on MY stand, in the living room, along with his amp. there's a pile of crap behind my house that used to be in my driveway, but after telling him to move it every single day for a month, only made it to the bilco doors. going in and out of the yard, he sometimes forgets to shut the gate, and i have to chase down my dogs. literally half my porch is waist high with crap he claims he's taking to the flea market, but doesn't. he was supposed to be doing that today. i went to breakfast this morning, and then shopping, so the drive would be empty and he could load the van without having to walk around my car. when i returned he was still here, so i parked on the street. i come into the house, he's on youtube. i didn't say anything, i just went about my business. an hour later, the county bus for the disabled guys who live next door arrived to drop them off at their house. in the process the bus hit my car. i just got laid off on wednesday. monday i start a new job, 50 miles away. not sure if i can patch the car up to make the trip. i'll be making the attempt tomorrow. he left the gate open again today, had to go and find my dogs frolicking on the r.r. tracks 3 blocks down the street. he almost never washes the dishes he uses. when he does, i have to re wash them because he does such a shitty job of it. i found out this week the state wants to change the deal after the handshake and not pay $100 of his rent. he has to re apply to the program every 3 months. they still haven't paid the security deposit, and they now tell me they don't plan to. i have had to chase them down for the rent every month. this whole thing is a mess. i did it because i've depleted my savings by being laid off for 8 months of this year. when i went back to work in july they said they had lots of work. that was a lie, apparently. also, i thought i was doing a good thing by helping him, i didn't know he was going to be a lazy hoarder who lives in a van in my driveway. i think it's time to begin ending this scenario. i don't understand why so many things in life have to be such a huge pain in the ass.
