I have an old desktop I'm getting rid of. Today I backed up what few files were left on it to an external hard drive and deleted files left on the hard drive. The computer is so old and slow (11 years old) that what should have taken about one minute took almost one hour. Today was the first time I had turned it on in at least 2 months.
I then removed the hard drive from the tower, but afterwards realized I forgot the clear the cache on the computer. Since the hard drive has been removed, is there any chance of any data retrival with no hard drive? I'm probably being more cautious than necessary, but I just want to avoid any banking issues moving forward.

Put a hammer to it all. Disassemble the had drive and break the disk. Keep the magnets though, they're powerful suckers.

I put the hard drive back in and deleted the cache and whatever else. I'll take it out again, then throw the whole thing a few times across the driveway. I hope a few neighbours are watching.

You have to open it up and destroy the disk to be sure. Seriously, the magnets come in handy.

I might rehouse the hard drive anyway, if I'm feeling industrious.
Not likely, but it's good to have goals.
