cool lookin bike eh? except, it's pissing me right the fuck off. was out riding last sunday after church. on the way home, i discovered i can't downshift below 3rd gear. at first, i thought i needed to adjust/lube the shifter. inspection proved that not to be the case. the trans shares oil with the engine, so i checked that. nope. checked the clutch cable adjustment. nope, that's not it. then, as i was doing my research, i came across this video: do you see the part in the thumbnail? i'm 99% sure that's my problem. i bought the bike in march of 2018. it only has 7,000 miles on it. i don't abuse it. i make sure it gets it's scheduled maintenance at the dealer. i literally just paid it off a couple months ago. the weather has been great this year, and i was looking forward to doing alot of riding. it was down last year because i needed tires. because of covid, tires were super hard to get, and the bike sat for all of july and august waiting for tires to ship. i have no idea how long it will take to get the parts to make this repair, but i know it's not going to be cheap. the best part is, i have been laid off since november 1, my unemployment ran out last week, and i'm living on savings. the idea was, with gas prices the way they are, to take the bike everywhere when it wasn't raining. but no, not now. i'll be driving the car (the one who's air conditioning just quit on me this year) and the government doesn't understand why we're all pissed off. it just never ends. if i wanted a cool bike that i couldn't ride, i would have bought a harley.

Nice looking bike..
Unfortunately I wouldn't ride a bike with all the dumb asses out there on their phones and thinking they are entitled not to have common courtesy. I drive 1/2 hr to work and see at least 6 "omg this isn't going to turn out well". I have to deal with assholes who think because they stop 12' from the stop sign that they have the right away.

Ah man, that sucks. Guess a tear down's in order? well, i'll know for absolute sure at some point. i'm going to take a loan against my annuity to pay for it, so when a slot opens at the dealer, i'll be getting it picked up. if i'm right about what's broken, the whole back half of the bike has to come off. it's due for valve adjustment anyhow, so it's going to end up getting torn apart 75% of the way.

I couldn't believe how much I had to tear down to change a water pump impeller on my '84 Goldwing. Have fun.

I had a harley breakout for a few years, sold it last year downsizing for the move and retirement, fortunately I never had an issue with it. I always had the impression listening to people talk that those Vulcans were solid bikes.

I would check to see if there was ever a recall on that particulier model. I used to ride a bike, too. I had a 1978 Honda Gold Wing. I rode until the morning of June 7th, 1982, forty years ago. I had a young driver make a "left turn" into me. 2 weeks later, I made it out of the hospital minus my left leg below the knee. so, be careful when riding.
nice looking bike, by the way.

i got the bike back from service last week. the problem was bushings on the shifting rod. they also replaced a tire that was dry rotted (even though it was only 2 yrs old) did the 7k mile service. altogether including the tow, $720. but, it uses much less gas than the car, and is much more fun
