what do y'all like for amps that are going to play cleans only. i don't mind if it breaks up just a tiny bit, but it will only be for clean tones. i want to run 2 amps, 1 for cleans, and one for dirt. it's not something i am doing tomorrow, but something i want to slowly research, and do at some point down the road. the wish list is: - between 25w-40w
- tube
- reverb
- effects loop
- 1x12 combo
the tube thing isn't a deal breaker, but i hate the feedback that comes from a s.s. amp. best case scenario it will be something not hard to find used, and not be more than $1200. jacks for extension speaker would be a plus, but again, not a deal breaker. i would (obviously) like it to sound good enough for it to be stand alone, as needed. it will be all the time clean, or at most very light break up.
what do you suggest i should look into? my guess is, folks will most likely recommend some model of fender. i don't think i have a preference yet for/against any brand. i'm mostly trying to find out where i should begin my research. thanks for any advice you all might give

I’d start with what you were thinking...fender, I really don’t have a lot of experience with amps in the wattage range your interested in, it’s either been way over or way under. Time to pull up a stool at the local music store and try some stuff out. Thought about a modeler? I know the one I have (fender mustang) is quiet as a mouse and does an awesome job of modeling all fender stuff. I know they make a 50w version, 1x12, worth checking out in my opinion even if your not a s.s fan.

I have an Orange Crush 20 and this does clean very well. It takes pedals even better. I like the CR20 so much I "want" the Crush 100..

I recently picked up a Quilter Superblock UK and I can tell you that I am impressed. I have four other tube amps and I am really digging Quilter amps. It is the size of a large pedals and is 25 w and can go louder than I like clean.

no, but i'm in no hurry. the entire idea of this thread was to begin the research. it could be a couple months down the road before i actually pull the trigger on something. i want to avoid trying out 10 different amps before i find what works for me. even then, before i can use the amps the way i intend to, i'll have to also make changes to my board and the way it's set up. that's a different thread, for down the road though. hahaha

Vox AC30!
Beautiful tone, effects loop, loud. The only thing is that it is a 2x12. But it is glorious.
Another option is a Traynor, one of the YCV series. For you that would mean the YCV20, YCV40, or YCV50 (blue or black version). The two larger ones give good options - the 40 is more American voiced, the 50 more British voiced. Both have a 12" speaker and an effects loop.

I think Colin's suggestion of an AC30 is good. They aren't for everyone but they do have their own thing going on. They make a 112 AC30 but it's still really heavy and I don't know if the lack of a driver changes the 'magic'.
Regarding your feelings about feedback with SS. I don't have the same experience. I've had some older, cheaper SS amps that didn't respond as expected but the better (maybe newer) stuff seems pretty good. I've had pretty good fb from a Katana and my Kemper feedback is indistinguishable from any of my tube amps. May just be a YMMV scenario.
Good luck with your search.

If you can live without the loop you are literally describing a Deluxe Reverb to a 'T'.

My favorite small amp is the Fisfman Loudbox Mini. Very versatile amp. I play a lot of acoustic guitars. Love this amp, very portable, light, and packed with great tone. Rene
