I am starting to build a Black Strat out of great Squier I picked up. Bought this off a local Luthier that set up action etc really well. I know it has a beautiful Rosewood not a maple neck, I really don’t care for a maple neck. Bought some antique yellowed plastics. Need to get a black pick guard and mini toggle. Rather than going with the SD and fender pickups I am hoping to get some Vineham Black Strat pickups.

what year was is the Squier ? I had a 1993 MIM Squier. it was black with a white scratch plate. nice guitar, but I never got used to the single coil pickups.

You know I don’t really know, it is a great player. I do not know if you can get the year from the serial number somewhere. It is well build and I don’t even know where it is built, it does not say anywhere?

I = Indonesia.

Some of these Squiers are built By AXL if your s/n begins with CXS (They are normal thickness, some squires are thinner)

my 1993 "Made In Mexico" Squier strat fell into this catagory. the Fender parts were sent to Mexico and then assembled there. so, then it could be said they were Made In Mexico. that's how it was for them in the beginning. however, now things are different.

No serial number or indication of where it is made, might be in the neck socket?

Near as I can tell it is a MIC SE Squier that has a desirable body and neck(which it does) shitty hardware and electronics. I am really happy to build a partscaster out of this.

I haven't done anything with Squier guitars for a very long time. once I sold all the ones that I had, I haven't looked back. they were nice guitars, but I never warmed up to the pickups. and you're correct about the hardware. it wasn't the best.

Well I do like a Strat, the fit and feel and that sqwauk! A wanky bar , light body, rescessed body and you can’t go wrong.

I was kinda one of the original members when it first got started. some of my threads are still going on there. the thread about, "which pedals do you have?" is mine.
