I have been thinking about either upgrading our account here (if that is possible), or moving the forum to another host. I would only pursue the latter course if we could do so without losing any of the posts here. If that cannot be done, I will not move it to another host.
But I am going to have to look into an upgrade of some kind because I received a message stating that we are approaching our limit on attachments. We are currently at 92% of our allowance, so I will have to make a decision fairly quickly.
I am busy as hell until Thursday night, but will start looking into options then. In the meantime, please slow down on the posting of attachments!!!

I was thinking the same thing…..especially in the “pictures that make you laugh”, “headstocks” and the “random” thread. A lot of photos there. Also, when someone is quoted, the photo gets copied too. Can the forum be set up so that the photos don’t get copied? Just tossing out ideas here.

Seems like a planned mass culling and a lowering of Attachment size limits would make sense

As an engineer, I was alway called upon to redesign things to save money. So I look at saving money everywhere.

True enough- funny how two very different disciplines like finance and engineering sometimes arrive at the same conclusions!

I am guessing that is why some forums have those annoying pop up advertisements or sell out to the amazonborg or bookface etc to track our interweb discussions. I suspect they get really fricken bored with my social media presence and my spending is not that significant.
Not sure there is enough regulars to gain you much with a $15 membership/yr. Crap I posted a picture of my new Tele!

Sympathetic to the situation, and I'll certainly try to cooperate. But, being minimally computer-literate, could somebody explain to me what qualifies as an attachment? Is it just pictures that we embed from our computers, or all pictures even if they're linked from external sources, and where do videos fit into all of this?

But, being minimally computer-literate Join the club. Not me. See my previous comment. No clue, but it would seem to make sense that pictures we embed would be the issue as stuff linked from elsewhere is stored elsewhere. Fucked if I have a clue regarding videos.

It is my impression that the pictures we post --aren't attachments if they are hosted on another site--the pictures I post are all remote hosted--so I don't see who they are attachments. Maybe videos if they're embedded?
In any case I added some pictures before I saw this thread. They may add something to bandwidth, but they don't seem like attachments.
And a guitar forum without pictures?
That would be boring.

Attachments are when you press the 'Add Attachment' button and this loads the pics to the server. There is a max size of 1MB per attachment and 3 attachments per post. They soon add up. I try to put a link to any pics I have stored elsewhere, such as on Facebook etc, but it's not always possible.

Videos are generally links to Youtube so they would not count towards your attachment allotment. Considering this forum has been around for quite a few years and this is the first time you've had the issue, if you do a one-time sweep of all the legacy attachments and just start from a clean slate I imagine you'd be fine for years to come. Then lower the max attachment size going forward.
