I was sad today to learn that Michael Nesmith has passed away. He was always the member of The Monkees that I had a respect for as a true musician. He was a co-writer of the Linda Ronstadt hit "Different Drum" and he had hit in the early 70's called "Joanne".
Rest in peace Michael. You'll make a fine addition to the musicians in Rock and Roll Heaven.

Oh wow! I hadn’t heard this yet! This is sad news! I think he was the only “real” musician in the Monkees. Rest easy Mr. Nesmith. 😥

WHAT this is the first that I've heard of it, too. I didn't realize that he had been sick. I, also, liked a lot of his individual music outside of the Monkees productions. here's one of my favorites,

I got this off of the TDPRI from the last show that they did. He sure looked very frail.

Sad news. I used to love watching the Monkeys Show when I was a kid! Our local TV station airs a lot of retro shows from the 60s and 70s. Right now I’m enjoying watching Get Smart and up til recently Beverly Hillbillies and Gilligans Island. But last year they were airing the Monkees and I tried to catch it whenever I could. They made some decent music although the show was pretty silly.

Don Adams driving his Sunbeam with a hottie like Barbara Feldon as his Partner/ sidekick in the passenger seat.

There were a few hotties back then….Barbara Feldon, Barbara Eden, Dawn Wells (I was never a Ginger fan). Right now Get Smart is in the later seasons where he’s been driving a Karman Ghia in the intro.
But let’s get back to the original thread…

I looked online afterwards and realized that Mike Nesmith was the sole writer (not co-writer) of Different Drum. Also found in reading about the song, that none of the original Stone Ponies except Linda Ronstadt were on that record, and the actual lead player that played on the record was Bernie Leadon of the Eagles)

Sad news for sure--I always found him the funniest--because his sense of humour seems more offbeat than the others, more quirky But yeah, he had other things going on. Ever seen Elephant Parts? it was a short lived sketch comedy show type thing that Mike Nesmith put together...
Condolences to his family & friends.

Sad to hear, he was a great musician, I believe there is only one original member left.
