Just a reminder to set those clocks back for DST!

Yeah, the extra hour is nice in some ways--but I'd rather just stay on Standard or daylight savings time year round.

Why daylight saving time is some of the worst government policy ever devisedBenjamin Franklin is often credited as the inventor of Daylight Saving Time. But that’s not true: Benjamin Franklin wrote a 1784 article making fun of how dumb it would be for the government to switch clocks around in an attempt to save energy.
The real inventor is this guy: William Willett. One summer morning he gets up early and notices that the sun is shining bright during the wee hours of the morning when he’s usually asleep. Yeah, duh.
Rather than vow to get up earlier in order to enjoy the extra sunshine, Willett’s plan is that everyone should get up earlier. The state should literally force them to alter their clocks twice a year so that they don’t have a choice: Mandatory sunshine for everyone.
Nobody pays much attention to this Willett character until the First World War breaks out.
By 1916, Imperial Germany has tried everything to win the war. Sinking merchant ships from submarines, using poison gas against enemy troops. And they figure this Willett guy might be on to something: Change the clocks, use the extra sunlight to save energy on lighting, use the saved energy to subjugate Europe.
This freaks out the rest of the world, who subsequently start changing their clocks just in case. And that’s why we’re stuck with it: Just like income tax, it’s an artifact of global war.
So why are we continuing with this idiotic hell system? I’m afraid the answer is bureaucratic inertia, if not outright legislative cowardice. Article content
The real story of Daylight Saving Time is that we will spend decades performing some pointless, wasteful, deadly exercise just because we’re too lazy to do otherwise.
So there you have it, DST is stupid. Fortunately, it’s the only dumb and wasteful we do purely out of collective habit. There are no others.

I would prefer to be on DST year round. On Standard time, on the longest day of the year in the summer (June 21) the sun would be rising at 4am and setting at 8:30pm. Wouldn’t we rather have that extra daylight while we are awake and after our workday? On the shortest day of the year (Dec 21) DST would have the sun rising around 9am and setting around 5:15pm as opposed to 8am and 4:15pm on standard time. I would still prefer having that little bit of light at the end of the day for the little outdoor chores like putting out the trash. When I was working, I was driving in and home in darkness during Standard time. If we stayed on DST, I’d at least be coming home with some daylight.
I vote for year round DST….it’s not so stupid

I personally like DST- I know many hate it. Now that we're on standard time it is going to be dark at 4.30 which really stinks. Sure I'd take Dst year round like we had years back, but until that day, I'll take that extra hour of daylight late in the day in summer

So DST is probably the next best choice... the province of Alberta recently had a vote about DST--not binding--but to see where people were at The vote was if people wanted to stay on DST year round as opposed to switching The vote was very close--almost 50/50 with a slight edge to leaving things as is. I know switching (In both directions, but worse in the spring)messes me up for a few days. I'd prefer to stay on one or the other--DST or standard--I'm okay either way.

The spring change messes me up for a few days too but it is worth it to me because of the advantage of it so being light at 9.30 in summer. But you are quite a bit north of me so you might have light until 10 PM anyway in summer

But that's also with DST. so it would also stay light later in winter if DST were year round.
