There's a 2021 release of Dune.
I remember watching the 1984 movie (with Sting and Captain Picard) and it left me a bit confused. So I read the series and then the movie made sense, but with a lot missing from the books. I also watched the mini-series (2000) and found that to be a little more accurate. Anyhoo .. I came across this write-up about the '84 movie and found it entertaining to read.

Never fancied reading science fiction books & to be honest, don’t really watch movies of that ilk either. I think I’ve seen the original on tv, but can’t recollect the story, so doubt if I’ll ever see it

I saw dune in the theater when it came out in 1984- I personally found it involved and confusing, never having read the books. It definitely wasn't a favorite of mine- maybe I'd feel differently now?

I read the book when I was in Grade 8, and I have re-read it a few times since--although it' been a while since I last read it. I may go dig up my copy of it and re-read it.
The adaptations weren't that good. This one may or may not be.
the sequel novels? I didn't enjoy them--and stopped reading them after his son took over (I read the first one) Too odd, too confusing & convoluted. AT least for me--and I sometimes like weird stuff.

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool science fiction fan, but I've started reading Dune several times and can't get into it. Different strokes, I guess.

I hated the books, I fought to get through the first one and the second one was worse. I tried to like it but I just thought it was dumb.

Maybe the TV series was better! I like campy stuff too- loved Red Dwarf. But somehow the books just didn't do anything for me- maybe I tried to hard to like it?

I first read Dune with no expectations--I just saw the spine of the book & the Word Dune--and I thought of Dune buggies, so I took it out. It is a bit of an odd style to start, but once I got into it I loved it.
On t he other hand, I tried reading Lord of the Rings when I was in high school, and I couldn't get that far into it. But I loved the movies... (It went the other way around with the Hobbit)

It was very British humour. The first book was the best, but I enjoyed the initial trilogy. The 4th one took a bit of a dip, but he 5th one was better. However there is a 6th book, written by another writer from notes by Douglas Adams However he doesn't have the same talent of wordsmithing & all that. You can skip that one. And the TV show is way better than the movie--but also check out the recordings.
