Yeah--new pedal day. I finally completed the pedals for my guitar board & got a pedal board as well.
So not saying I'll never buy another pedal again, but it could be a while (Unless there's a new one that comes along or I'm replacing one) Of course I could win one or be gifted with one too.
So here it is, my possible last NPD for a while...
An Electro-Harmonix Micro Q-Tron Envelope Follower (or an autowah in other terminology.)
When I decided to go with a separate bass pedalboard & guitar pedalboard I decided to use my Boss AW-3 for the bass board as it works greta for bass, and I use settings on it I don't use for guitar. I've come across used AW3s, and the prices were still more than I wanted to spend at the time. And I haven't found any other good deals on auto what/envelope follower/filter type pedals---until earlier today (or Wednesday)
I found a used Micro Q-Tron.
I tried it out & it does what I want it to--and the drive setting is a nice option. They had an AW3 as well and I played through both, but the Q-Tron just made more sense--both sonically & financially.
So that would mean I have my full signal path I had planned for a guitar pedalboard.
But I still needed a pedalboard--so I took a look & found a used PedalTrain for a great deal.
Buying used made that possible today. So now my upcoming assignment is to assemble the guitar pedalboard. I should have enough cables & all that--but I'll confirm that tomorrow.

Here's the Q-Tron: Pedalboard isn't much to look at now, but when it's assembled I'll post a picture.

It's not an effect I use a lot--but it's a great option to have.
So also to get a great price is cool.

SO here's a grainy photo--ned a steadier hand or a tripod, and different angle. None of the pedals were attached yet (Wel the ones that have velcro were sort of attached) Just planning out a possible arrangement--seeing if the cables & all that work--both for signal & power. And they do So I may try dome other arrangements--biut I am pretty set on pedal order based on much experimentation But feel free to offer suggestions & comments or ask questions. Even when attached this is not set in stone--so to speak...

I was wondering how it stacks up compared to the ibanez tube screamer.

I like to use it with the DS-1, they complement each other well in they tend to affect different spots on the audio spectrum (if that makes sense) By itself it's still cool. Not for everybody, but I've managed to make it work. I haven't played Tube Screamers a lot (Am I supposed to admit that? ) But they seem to be a different beast--so if you want a Tube Screamer sound get one of them or one of thee clones. I haven't seen too many DOD FX-53 Classic Tube pedals around. Mine was the first one I saw--it was a gift from another guitar player who didn't use it anymore & decided to give it away.

Tube screamers are great pedals, I’ve had them in the past. I used them as more of an overdrive pedal. Never experimented with other tube pedals and don’t have one in the signal chain these days. I’m playing thru a modeling amp right now so I don’t have a need for a lot of stuff. If I ever get back into a “working” band I will probably go back to a solid state amp and rearrange my pedal board.

From what I've heard they were designed as overdrives. Still in the dirt pedal range though. But there will eb differences with distortion pedals & fuzz pedals--whiel also having some overlap.
I've been using the amp distortion when I play through my OtrnageMicroDark--btu sometimes it's nice to have a pedal so you can go between clean & dirty.

Maybe not as much as a Klon--but still crazy

I don’t mean to hijack this thread but I used a DOD Classic Tube for about 10 yrs for my lead boost into my old Blues Deluxe amp. It sounded good but I found it to be a bit muddy at times.
For the last 3 years, I’ve been using a Boss SD-1, which when dialed in properly, can produce nice rich lead tones. I’ve recently combined this with a Joyo American sound (Tech 21 Blonde clone) which gives a SS amp a bit of dirt when strumming.
Previous to the SD-1, I was using a DIY GGG TS-808 clone. It came with some toggle switches for symmetric and assymmetric clipping and some Keeley style voicing. It was a good pedal that came with the JRC4558 chip used on the old Tube screamers. However, I found that I liked the smoother sound of the asymmetric SD-1 over this.
The best tube style pedal I ever had, and I kick myself for ever selling it, was an original BK Butler Tube Works Tube Driver that used a real 12ax7 tube in the circuit. At the time I wasn’t using a pedalboard and having to run A/C voltage to my one pedal was a pain in the ass. So young and stupid me sold the damn thing, for about a third of its current value, and replaced it with the DOD Classic Tube.

The DOD can be muddy, I agree--which is why it's good to know your pedals. It's also why I like using it with the DS-1--which has the opposite thing sometimes. They play well together

I have 6 dirt pedals and a fuzz on my pedal boards. Boss 80's OD-1 OCD Radial Hot British Joyo American Marshall Guv'nor Goudie FX 808+ EHX Big Muff
With these I can achieve a Plexi , tube screamer and tube breaking up sounds with both pedal boards at low volumes.

Variety s nice. I'm sticking with 4 unless someone gives me another or something like that--but Certainly don't think it's a bad idea to have several available.
