Driving home tonight there was some old guy in a brown plad shirt standing at a major intersection with sign that said The End is Near. Haven’t heard that one in years. He looked like the guy with the pitchfork in the American Gothic painting. I didn’t have time to lower the window or would have yelled “bring it bitch.”

All I can say that investors need to play offense and defense at all times. I obviously can't really tell you if a bear market is coming- there are quite a few indicators that the market is overbought, but there were people concerned a year ago about that.
My best advice is invest in a way that lets you sleep well at night. If you think you are overexposed, you probably are not allocated properly. Unless you are really close to retirement, I would never suggest a huge move to cash. People who do that often get burned because they buy back in when it is already too late

There used to be an offbeat sort of church in the late 80s right beside an elevated highway that passes through the middle of downtown toronto and it had a sign saying "The End is Near, Call Jim" and then Jim's phone number.
I never did call Jim and I expect that he has cashed in his chips by now so he missed out on "The End" as it were - although it's kinda one of them philosophical questions as to what is meant by the end if Jim is ended but "The End" comes later; although it sure don't matter to Jim anymore .. lol.

Maybe it is time for me to go looking for pictures of that church. I'm really thinking Jim can help me out. I'm mostly a positive sort of fellow and I'm more inclined to believe that old Jim might have left town after a wild weekend with some barely-of-age coeds and several bottles of night train. Guys like that always know the right thing to say...

My friends and I loved it. I hadn't seen in since I was in kindergarden.

Getting back to the original subject, this makes me nervous as my RRSPs are in fairly conservative mutual funds and I’ve watched them do some major fluctuating in value for the last few months and this is the money that I’m supposed to use to live on for the rest of my life. Kinda scary hearing this.

I wonder how the CCP will react to this? Black Swan Visits Beijing’s Tiananmen SquareBlack swan landed on Tiananmen Square, causing heated discussion of tourists being evacuatedSomeone mentioned that at the Politburo meeting on January 28 this year, Xi Jinping only asked to prevent the “black swan” and “gray rhino” incidents; and recently, the CCP’s Cyberspace Administration of China also “published” financial news content from the media in violation of regulations. Carry out rectification and prohibit financial self-media from “badging” China’s financial market and China’s economy.
“As soon as the voice fell, the black swan landed on Tiananmen Square. It seems that the sudden economic collapse is a matter of minutes, and the biggest uncertainty comes from Beijing and from the political center.”
Some people also think that on September 2, the Chinese Communist Party just publicly confirmed that it would establish the Beijing Stock Exchange. They said, “(Black Swan) really picks time” and “It’s really ironic.”

Kinda scary hearing this. Well in your case you definitely should have some money in cash (maybe bonds? ) because you actually need to draw it down. I still wouldn't flip your allocation to 100% cash if I were you because some component of capital appreciation would offset inflation. That said, I am not a fan of bonds because the yields are artificially low. Market corrections could happen at any time- or not. For every person who says there's a major crash coming there is someone else who says that they predict major upside. I just stay the course and keep both offensive and defensive assets
