Years ago I bought a cheap tenson brand acoustic guitar to leave in Germany. The thing is absolute trash but it has made it possible for me to play/ practice and not carry a guitar with me when I fly to Germany. The action is high and playability is poor and the first signs of its impending doom showed today
The bridge is separating from the body and when you strum it, there is a very unpleasant buzz from the bridge assembly. This baby is about to pop. I only hope I can get another couple weeks out of it before the thing blows apart.
I should have looked for an old east German Mossimo (I think that's the brand?)...

Years ago my son went to Brazil to teach English as a second language (ESL) for a year. While there, he bought himself a cheap $50 classical guitar that he ended up leaving but other than terrible fretwork, he said it sounded okay and at least he had something to play. Maybe you should have gone with nylon strings.

I also have a Squier strat up there, but no amp. Getting an amp is an option but I am getting to reduce clutter at my mother in law's house, not buy more stuff

You could just take it with you easily enough--use at home or there.

It is only a $100 Strat so even if something were to happen to it, it wouldn't be a huge loss. I'll probably get a cheap amp in Germany at some point but we leave on a week long trip to the Czech Republic and Vienna tomorrow so I am not going to bother looking to much right now.

I was just thinking of a cheap & space saving way to have an amp there. Of course a cheap amp is also an option, but you had already mentioned it.

I'd really only be playing guitar to compare my son on trumpet so whatever option it was, it would have to be audible other than through headphones. I'm sure if I really looked around I could find something relatively small and cheap

find yourself an old Framus acoustic guitar from the late 60s/early 70s. I bought one in '72 when I was there and was very surprised at the playability and sound the guitar had. in '72, I paid $30 at the PX for it.

Yeah maybe the next time I am here I will look for something like that. At this point most of the rest of the trip we will be traveling and not staying with my mother in law
