years ago there was a shop that I used to go to. the owner would always remind you, "be careful your belt buckle doesn't scratch the back of the guitar". Certainly I have seen & heard that in shops--as well as having people remove jackets. Makes sense. Another store didn't let you use picks.

“We don’t have one out here so I’ll check in the back”. Always wanted to check out “the back”. I got to go in the back room once. however, before I did, the owner asked if my heart was in good condition. what ? he opened the case of a pristine 1958 Gretsch 6120 hollowbody. it was perfect ! I was afraid to touch it. so, I just let it lay in the case. I knew I couldn't afford it and I didn't want to be responsible for causing any damage to it. Yep, I’m the same, I usually don’t mess with the guitars that are hanging 15 feet up unless I’m seriously considering buying one. As far as high dollar guitars go, I usually have my mind made up before I go in the store anyhow.
