Thinking about another amp which would be for a home use couch amp and maybe home recording.
Part of it is also that I have a Fender Super Champ X2 that I don't use and want to get rid of but I don't want to deal with kajidiots coming to the door in these troubled times so would rather trade it at the store towards something that I would use.
From the vids I've looked at the Katana seems like a high gain metal box but maybe that's just what people are choosing to do with it.
The Yamaha is difficult to assess but seems to cover jazz to blues and also rock sorta stuff.
The Katana is a big ass 50 watt amp so could be used for jams whereas the Yamaha is nyet to that.
I have 3 combo amps which do the job so I don't really need another Katana sized rig although the Katana can be dialed down to .5 watts.
The Yamaha is stupid expensive for what it is.
I don't know what kind of music I play but to categorize it would probably be close to southern rock with the blues and country influences associated with that genre. Categorizing music sucks but sometimes you have to try.
So thoughts on these two ?
Obviously the answer is to drag my sorry ass to the music shop and try each of these pigs myself but I was wondering what the cognosenti might have to say on this matter .. lol

I can't comment on these particular amps , but let me ask you this: What would these amps give you that your current amps don't do for you?

I can't comment on these particular amps , but let me ask you this: What would these amps give you that your current amps don't do for you? Bigger sound at low/moderate volume and the Yamaha might be easier to record than my current amps. Also take the load off my tubes when I'm just practicing/messing around no need to burn them up for that. I have a 57 Custom Champ, 57 Custom Deluxe and Pro Jr Tweed. To get them cooking takes a bit of volume although the Champ records well at 3 and isn't super lound. So far I've been a bit agnostic about running the electric guitar straight into the DAW or into my board although I've been running the acoustic guitars into the board with a K&K, a mag soundhole pickup and a mic all of which uses 3 channels and provides a lot of EQ to play with. I also have a Blackstar Fly 3 which is nice little box for just messing around with and I wouldn't mind something that sounded like that just more of it hence the Yamaha. Katana comes into it because it is cheaper than the Yamaha, more powerful so could be used at jams and can be cut to .5 watts but I haven't heard any sounds from them that I liked and have the combo amp thing more than covered anyway.

Bottom line is that the Super Champ has to go and trading it for gear that I will use is prefered over selling. Other option is to trade the amp for a National Slim Line pickup and install on this along with T and V pots but the place that has the national pickups is a small shop and would likely want to do a consignment deal on the amp whereas the other store gives 70% right there of what they think they can get for the amp.

I don't blame for not liking the SC- I've tried one and I wasn't particularly impressed.
Infant has a Katana and he seems pretty happy with it- hopefully he will weigh in net

For a few bucks more, I'd recommend the 100w Katana. 50w
100w
I have the MK1. A few changes compared to the MK 2 above.

+1 on the Katana 100. I’ve had mine for 3 or 4 years now. I finally downloaded the tone studio and set up the amp to sound close to my Deluxe Reverb as I’m tired of lugging the DR up and down the stairs for gigs.
I mostly use the clean channel with the GA-FC pedal. I’ve set up 4 different channels on the amp with effects that I use on gigs. I’m pretty happy with it. At a gig or a jam with a band, no one will be able to tell whether or not it’s a tube amp, it actually sounds very good.

Go big or go home.
After listening to a load of youtube videos about amp comparsons and reading a bunch of crap I'm sick of this so I'm gonna swing by the local trading post tomorrow after getting my hair cut and try to flip my Fender toward a Katana 100. Probably take my 335 to try the Yahaha and the Boss but when all's said and done I think the larger amp will be the better option. It means another big box layin around the house but the Fender has to go and I don't feel like selling it privately.
Was Samson Agonistes the guitar player in ancient greece who got his hair cut and was then too weak to carry a twin out to his F150. I think the amp fell on him and he died. I majored in philosophy during my undergrad so I don't think that I'm wrong about that.

It was all about political correctness in those days- decidedly LOW BROW. But seriously, sounds like a good choice you are about to make

Just a head's up though, there is a learning curve to programing it. Mostly with the tone studio on your computer. Once you understand the concept, it gets easier. There have been a few times when I thought of offering up mine to you (too many here and I've been wanting to downsize for a while now), unfortunately, I'm not really a fender fan and don't want another addition. Happy hunting!

Yeah, I saw that about the tone studio thing. Pretty sure I can sort it out on the 30 day return.
I need to downsize a ton of stuff not just amps and guitars; got way too much crap in case I end up having to move and downsize my life in general.
And as for the Fender Super Champ I wouldn't want to trade that off on anyone I know ... lol

So I got the Katana 100 today.
Gonna take awhile to sort it out and will have to try the tone studio or whatever it’s called for sure. Sound is OK but nothing like my tube amps and it feels different as well but early days yet and hopefully I can get something going on this.
Got it at L&M Bloor. Staff were nice to deal with but I don’t think I can go back there again because the city has reduced Bloor Street down to one lane each way and installed a bunch of stupid bike lanes which have like two people using them. So there’s miles of cars backed up going nowhere and it’s just a major headache to get there even though it’s not far from where I live.
Same thing where I get my haircut downtown Toronto. They reduced all the major arterial streets down to two lanes and it’s wall-to-wall cars going nowhere while some slobs tootle by on their bicycles. If they’re concerned about pollution you sure as hell wouldn’t know it because having those cars sitting there idling is dirtin the place up pretty good.

I take it that you got the Mk II version of the Kat 100? It’s got some things that I wish the Mk I had. Did you pick up the foot controller with it? All I wanted to do in the tone studio is to get my Kat 100 to sound similar to my Deluxe Reverb. I got it pretty close after watching this video. Go to 3:48 to hear comparison. BTW, bike lanes are starting to piss me off here in Hamilton. I rarely see anyone using them while I’m sitting in bumper to bumper traffic.

I'm getting an Ok sound from it right out of the box using CH1 on the Tone Seting which I think might be a blues driver at the factory settings. As it is the Katana is an amp I feel I could use and there's more to come. Much better than the Fender X2 that I traded - it was just sitting here doing nothing for a good few years. As for Hamilton, I was going to jams there before the 19 hit and I was thinking I wouldn't mind living there but not gonna happen because our business is set up in north york.

Our housing prices are starting to skyrocket as people who can’t afford to live in the GTA are moving out this way….Hamilton, Brantford and Niagara region. There’s always the GO Train from Hamilton to Union Station but then you’ve gotta get out to North York from there.

Didn't get the controller; will check it out once I know more about the amp. I think I might not need the controller. There's one on kijiji for $145 ($25 off retail) in Mississauga. Doesn't say if he has the label for Boss though. If not, I have one somewhere that I could look for. BOSS GA-FC Foot Controller $145

Glad I got this amp though; getting good enough sound from it as is and will work on the tone studio stuff and patches but out of the box this is something that I will use as opposed to the Fender which I hadn't used in years and was just sitting there. Plan started as get a small compact couch amp like the Yamaha and I ended up with a 100 watt box; it can be no other way ... lol

That one looks different than the one that I have. It definitely would need the label. I don’t know why Boss doesn’t throw the label in the box with the amp itself as they seem to change the pedal labeling every few years to match their newer amps..

Truth is one can only make so many concessions. I moved to SS head amp for my gigging amp fairly recently. The manufacturer makes a 6" external cab that comes in a gig bag. It looked very tempting but I am just not ready to downsize from a 12" speaker. The new cab is about as small as a 12" cab could possibly be...

An ordinary two button Fender footswitch will flip between Ch1 and Ch2 in either of Banks A and B but won't flip between A and B even with a TRS.
So two working channels to select and two more if the Panel button is engaged manually.
I think that'd do for what I need. Most I'm ever going to be doing is playing at one setting and then stepping on it for a bit of boost like a regular goose pedal.
