I've been playing bass for around five years now (guitar for 40+) and the GAS is the same as with guitars. Just want to share a few of my puppies with ya's.

I love Rickys. My bass player plays an old, near mint, ‘75 Ric and it’s a beauty. That natural finish is also quite nice.

I love birdseye--and that's a lot of birdseye. I have some on the back of the neck of my EB 3 copy--but not that much. Cool basses overall. And I think this makes three forums I've seen you on now.

Can get a lot of cool sounds by playing around with the knobs. I acquired it with Seymour Duncan SRB-1 Humbucker set (Alnico 5, ceramic) and a 920d custom wiring harness.

More on my '93 G&L Legacy bass.
Introduced in November 1992 and name discontinued in late '93 due to trademark infringement with the Zon company, makers of high-end bass guitars which had the Legacy model since '81. The Legacy was renamed to LB100 and has been that way since.
This one has the factory MIJ Gotoh pups.

'19 Custom Built '51 P bass.
Basswood body, maple neck. Sources unknown. The builder told me that he assembled it five years prior from a roomful of various parts that he has and can't recall where these were from. The headstock kinda reminds of an old Peavey or a MIJ Aria Pro II. The pick guard was custom ordered to fit this bass and dyed to match the body. Lindy Fralin RBS51P split coil pup. Came with Fender bridge and pup covers, but I prefer it without them on.

At the moment, I'm photographically challenged because of some unresolved problems at my photo-hosting site, so I've had choose the best pictures I could find on hand rather than snapping new photos. This group photo, which is from a while back, shows my 4003 restoration (now sold), my violin bass, my short scale Tele, and my 34" Tele.
The 34" has since been rebodied with a full-size bass body after I discovered that the guitar body was causing neck-diving.

That Tele looks cool. You almost think that it's converted over from a 6 string. or is it?

That Tele looks cool. You almost think that it's converted over from a 6 string. or is it? Yes, it started life as a 25.5" scale six string Telecaster. When I decided to build my first instrument in 2006, I originally thought about converting a Les Paul Junior husk that I'd been given, but the owner of the local music store ridiculed the idea saying it couldn't be done with a short scale instrument. So, of course, I had to prove him wrong. I bought the Tele on eBay intending to just convert it, but I became dissatisfied with the non-standard body shape....I think it was a Godin with some extra swoop in the upper bout, so I bought the sunburst body on eBay and with some difficulty, grafted it to the original neck, plugged, redrilled and re-veneered. I used a Schaller bridge which adjusted for narrow string spacing, three mini-bucker bass pickups, TBX control, a five-way Strat switch, a toggled neck + bridge switch , Jazz Bass pickup and tailpiece covers, and Dunlop Straploks.. I ended up having to order special PieZo .060-.125 short scale strings. In the end, I spent almost a year finishing it, but for a first effort, it turned out okay. It's the heaviest bass I've ever owned, but definitely the ballsiest-sounding.

Here are most of the guitars I’ve owned over the past 30 years My ‘75 Telecaster and the hard tail Strat partscaster that I built (and later gave to my son). I bought the Tele brand new after saving all my money from my part time job at a local grocery store. It was my only electric guitar for almost 20 years and I still own it. My son will inherit it when I pass. I built the Strat in ‘94 and it became my main guitar for a while as it was comfortable to play. However, I couldn’t stop my pinky from unknowingly turning down the volume control, so when my son said he wanted to learn guitar, I gave it to him. This black beauty is a ‘96 Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion III. I bought it in March ‘97, the same day that I signed on to work for the last company that I was at. I drove to a music store about 40 miles north of Toronto in a bit of a snowstorm before coming back and signing on the dotted line. Awesome guitar but I just couldn’t bond with the neck. I sold it for a lot less than it was worth around 2008. About 5 yrs ago, I saw it being sold on Kijiji for twice the amount I sold it for. I thought about buying it back but the price was too steep. around 2010, I was missing that semi hollow sound. So I was at L&M one day and my buddy there pointed out this Epiphone Dot Royale. The thing played really well and sounded pretty good. It played even better after I had them do a full fret dress and setup under warranty. I really liked the pearlescent white with gold hardware. I ended up selling it to a friend after buying my next guitar. (See next post)

So I sold the Epiphone after getting an incredible deal on this ‘06 Gibson ES137 Custom. The lady was selling it along with a Marshall MG100HDFX Stack and a Boss ME-50 processor for $1200 CAD. She was apparently in Stage 4 cancer and was selling stuff to pay for her cremation. People were telling her it was a fake and were offering her $500 for everything. I gave her the $1200 and took the guitar as it was worth much more than what I paid and besides, I felt like I was taking advantage of her if I took everything and she was the one that needed the money. Just to ease my mind, I checked with Gibson and it’s real this is my Fender ‘72 Thinline RI FSR. One of only 200 made that were sold thru L&M. Originally came with chickenhead knobs but they didn’t work with my pinky so I put regular knobs on it. It’s been my #1 for the last 8 or 9 years. my ‘14 Gibson Melody Maker, my only P90 equipped guitar. It became my #1b after buying it as it was lightweight and had a fast comfortable neck. I added the pick guard and changed the speed knobs to reflectors.

Finally my latest acquisition, a brand new PRS SE Hollowbody Standard. I’ve since added PRS locking tuners but otherwise, this is a beautiful guitar for just about any type of music (except metal). This is also my lightest guitar at 6lbs 1oz. It’s also much smaller than the ES137 this here is my Martin D-16GT. I bought I when a local store was closing down and the funny thing about this guitar is that the guy who sold it to me is the same guy who now works at L&M and sold me the PRS. I’ve also got a ‘72 Ovation Balladeer but I don’t happen to have a photo available. so out of all these guitars, I no longer have the Epi Dot or the Howard Roberts. I’m in the process of maybe selling the Melody Maker but It’s not posted anywhere. I just saw someone looking for this exact model and I though I’d test the market.
