Some good info here--but I find he is too strict about this--almost legalistic in a way-like he has it all figured out. So some good info, yes, but I contrary to this article I put my octave pedal before my volume pedal--I find ti responds best if first in the chain. I also have a distortion pedal before my autowah (Although I also have at least one after it as well) And I like the EQ later in the chain. I get his reasons for having ti sooner, but I like to use it to clean things up & for a boost--but later on works better. Any thoughts form the others that use pedals? Pedal order

I’ve taken the wah pedal off my board right now.. I go wireless receiver > Tech21 Blonde clone > Tube Screamer > Joyo Tremolo > Boss Chorus > Ibanez Delay.

I'm debating this issue right now because I'm getting ready to refurbish my pedal board and it might have a bearing on how I patch things together. I'll start with the Digitech Mosaic, on the theory that I want any effect available to either the six string or 12 string guitar signal. The last piece will be the DOD 285 speaker emulator/direct output box, so all the effects are available whether I'm playing through an amp or (in a pinch) the PA system. The positions in between are up for grabs....There'll be Chorus/Octave/Delay/'59 Fender Bassman pedal. I'm thinking the '59 Bassman pedal should be the last thing before the direct box on the premise that I'm modeling a Bassman amp, so all other effects should come before it. I probably won't get down to the project until days off on the weekend.

I always find it fun to experiment I'd have the Octave early on--otherwise the signal might not be as easy to track. I get the reasoning for the Mosaic first--I'd put the Octave first after that. The others could go in a lot orders & still make sense.

That's cool My foot doesn't seem to like them though--although I do like them.

My pedalboard setup --> Looper (channel A goes to my Fuzz's, channel B fuzz removed)--->WAH--> Compressor -->buffer-->OD-->Distortion-->Modulation Pedals-->Shifter/Filters --->buffer--->A/B Switch Channel A HK18, Channel B Eganator Rebel 20.
Reverb, Delay, and Noise gate are in my FX loop.

The compressor is the one pedal I see a lot of folks use with a large pedal chain, I was wondering if I should try one. Right now my pedal chain is.. tuner-volume-wah-phaser-distortion-chorus-delay. Should I try one?

I took the compressor off of my board a couple of years ago as I found I couldn’t control my sound. Whenever I tried digging in to play louder, it felt like it was squeezing my volume. I could never get it to sound like I would like.
However, that’s my own experience, yours may be different.

The only way to know for sure is to bring my whole pedal board to the music store and try one I guess, at least that way I’ll know for sure. The distortion pedal I use is actually an overdrive pedal I use for lead solos so most of my distortion comes from the amp, that why I’m not sure a compressor would be useful.

I ended up winding my own pickups and building my own pedals because I was buying and selling them to find what I was happy with. Of course I lost money along the way because I couldn't sell them at what I paid for. Now I have waaaay too many pedals and pickups.

Of course I lost money along the way because I couldn't sell them at what I paid for. Now I have waaaay too many pedals and pickups. I built a few of the General Guitar Gadgets DIY pedals, auto-wah, phase shifter, compressor and tube screamer. I sold the first 2 and still have the compressor and tube screamer. You are right, even though they are hand built and cost less than a name brand, you’re lucky to get half of what you paid for the actual kit when you sell them. The same goes for partscasters. I’ve built a Tele and a Strat, both with high end, name brand parts. (Grover, Seymour Duncan, Dimarzio, Fender, Switchcraft etc). I sold the Tele 20 years ago for $500, cost me almost $700 in parts to build. I gave the Strat to my son as I know he’d appreciate what I put into it. I even tried my hand at assembling golf clubs, buying the heads, shafts and grips and assembling them together. Play them for a season, sell them and build a new set for the next year. Lost lots of money doing that. So now I don’t build any of this type of stuff anymore. Not worth it in the long run. Funny thing, the guy I sold the pedals to, tried selling the auto-wah a few months later on Kijiji. I sold it to him for 30 bucks and he was asking $100 and advertising it as a handwired custom made pedal, one of only a handful, easily worth $200 new. I knew it was mine as I created the graphics and the sticker on the bottom said “Manufactured in Canada by RI Electronics” (RI=Rob Infanti)

You guys are right, the DIY stuff is cool too make yourself and great experience, but you never make that money back on a sale

I have messed up a lot on the pickup side, but it's fairly cheap to build so messing up isn't going cost you the farm The most expensive items in pickups are the base and the magnets. Of course the initial winder, but I was cheap and made one from a bench grinder from harbor freight. Lot of my parts from here www.philadelphialuthiertools.com/pickup-making-parts/I don't know WTF I hit to make my response in quotes.
