I had a good one made some years back at a Gretsch get-together in Kansas City, but it's lost in the depths of an old computer memory that can't be accessed anymore. there is a video, but it's terrible. I mean T E R R I B L E.

So DB, do you also sing in a barbershop quartet? The only reason I ask is because, back in high school, me and 3 of my friends decided that we would try barbershop for our high school talent show and we got in touch with the local Barbershop Harmony Society. We told them what we wanted to do and they told us to join them for a few evenings and they would help us out. They also helped us out with the stage appearance too...white shirt, bow tie and straw hat (actually styrofoam), pretty much like you are wearing.

No, I don't think any barbershop quartet would want the likes of me! Like I said we wear the straw hats in summer too keep the sun off. That gig was an outdoor private party in July. Also a lot of places want us to wear them when we play Dixieland concerts, so I have a bunch of old hats (8 or 9) in assorted sizes in case someone needs one. In fact, my son wears my dad's old boater from the 1950's. He's quite attached to it.

I don't really gig, and don't take a lot of selfies when I play at home--so not a lot of pictures of me playing. I think my parents have some of me as a kid when I took lessons. I did find this one--which is the background of a wide shot, this was from a semi outdoor church retreat This is the best I can find right now. Might be able to get something better later.

My wife is the keeper of all our gig pics. I’ll have her send me a few and post them at some point.

The photos were taken 25 years apart. The photo with the explorer is a mystery as far as where it was taken, the other was back in my country band days, playing at a vfw. Attachments:

This photo was taken in 2013, it was an outside gig, on a flatbed I think somewhere in north Georgia, same country band I was with in the above photo with the same strat. What’s special about this pic was that it was my last gig, haven’t gigged since. Soon to change though.

I know it's impossible for the front 3 to wear one, but why is the bass player wearing a mask? Excellent question! As you said the front line can't wear masks as they are playing and there is always regular contact anyway. I'm not wearing one because I just had the 'rona anyway and considering I don't really go anywhere other than shops the likelihood of my being sick is near zero. The bass player is not one of the regulars in our group. The venue paid for 5 musicians so we brought him in. I told him you do whatever makes you feel comfortable. You want to wear a mask, go ahead and if you don't that's fine too since we were all recently sick.

A bottle of water on top of your Dr Z? ?

Yes, that is my son on trumpet and his sister on Flügelhorn next to him. People say they see a resemblance, but I think she looks more like me than he does!
Yeah, there is a water bottle on the Dr.Z but I always keep the cap on. I'm not even sure I opened the bottle on Sunday!

Must be nice to have family members play in the band.
My son is the vocalist and guitarist in a band, although they haven't played for well over a year. There's no way he would play with me. It stems back to the late 80s when he was going to play at a party with his young band, in a village hall, local to where we lived at the time. I popped round, when they were rehearsing, to see if he needed transport back to our house. They were actually playing on stage and I noticed a spare guitar plugged into an amp, so I asked the boy who owned it if I could have a go. He said yes, so I joined in with the band. One of them said to my son, your Dad's good isn't he, and he went storming off

Hit the jackpot on Facebook. Every once in a while, a post is made that seems to trigger more reaction than expected. I was on a local Facebook page and mentioned a teen discotheque called The Alter Ego that operated downtown in the late 60's. Lots of responses to the post and a newspaper clipping of my band playing there one night.

It's really too bad the pictures didn't turn out better. I posted this on a local Facebook page and so far have about 75 likes and almost 60 comments. I guess it struck a nerve with a lot of people who got to go there and enjoy it in the 60's. And it really captured an era locally.....Every time I think about The Alter Ego, I can hear a Beatles White Album song playing in my head.

Wow, even a baritone sax, cool! Yeah- he's the brother of the trombone player. Since my daughter has just started working full time I can hardly ask her to take days off to play concerts so I have been bringing the bari sax player in more. We've been playing with him for years- sometimes I bring him in when I can't find a drummer.
