Now, you've got me learning this. It has such a dark horror movie vibe. A very creepy song, but cool to play.

Your right, creepy, but real fun to play though. The intro is straight forward and creepy.. The quick bit after the intro is a neat transition into the main rythem. Easy and fun but also sounds cool playing it by yourself, unlike most thrash tunes.

Here's another early slayer favorite. Like seasons in the abyss its popular among metal players as it was one of the few slayer tunes that are fairly easy to play. Great song to listen to.

Want to set of a catatonic seizure whilts talk to a "fundy Chrisitian," mention Slayer, especially Slayer. The "fundies" have developed what they believe is a well argued case that Slayer is the most, evil Satanic band in the world. They pull out a lot "proof text," and "revealed truth" about the band and the genre. It's almost a comedy routine as they throw out silly questions, and trite wrote answer about metal.
One of the points of discussion which I point them toward is this question. "Why would the Devil resort to using metal bands, who generally don't have as large an audience as some new pop act?" "Would a band like '5 Seconds of Summer' draw bigger crowds for possession, and turn to evil?"
But because they generally don't find the music as disturbing as high speed guitar playing, and screaming lyrics about dark issues. They don't worry about it.

Man, that's funny. First off, as far as coming off as "satanic", slayer is way down on the list as far some of the others. Slayer, who has been labeled that and a few other things have almost made a joke out of it. A lot of their song titles are provocative on purpose, a lot of there songs (not all) have nothing to do with the song title for effect,.....and to feed the idiots on the "metal is satanic bandwagon". In an interview the lead singer/bassist, Tom araya who by the way is just a family man himself says that none of the members of the band have anything remotely to do with or believe in the occult or satan. Of course we all know that. In fact, mandatory suicide is one of the songs picked on the most. Early slayer tunes set the stage for their reputation. The whole slayer schtick is nothing more then a commercial painting designed to make money. What is real is the music itself, that's what the members of slayer are about as are their fans. The funny part is, this is all painfully easy to see. Makes me really wonder about the mental capacity of some these folks that beat on slayer blindly and uninformed with the exception of what they see on alblum covers and the "satanic" music they hear. Lastly, a little known fact, Tom Araya, who's father is a Christian minister, is a Christian himself.......... Crazy stuff.

Here is some insight on their train of thought on things from the men themselves. Particularly interesting is the naming of albums for no other reason the "it sounds cool"....... Lol ......that's slayer.....money machine.... Whatever rings the cash register is what they are about these days. I'm not trying to convince you that slayer doesn't have a satanic feel, they do, by design. Just trying to put it in context.

The lads to a page from the Stones playbook. Stir up some controversy, and sell records. I can't remember the interview where Mick said something similar about Sympathy for the Devil, as to God Hates Us All. "It sells records." And, lest we forget KISS would do anything to make money, and people still love 'em. Gene answered an interview question about what KISS meant, and said "Knights In Satan's Service." I've heard him say it was one of the funniest and most profitable things he's ever said. I'm thinking how funny it would be to see Slayer, or Machine Head, doing a concert wearing Aloha shirts, cargo shorts, and flip flops.

Anyone that would wear a toupee as bad as Gene's, not only would sell his mother - he'd sell his kids, and his grandchildren. I saw KISS twice between 75 and 76. The first time they opened for ZZ Top. Pretty good shtick, but ZZ Top was so much better. They were doing the Nudie's cowboy suit shtick (yep the Top has a shtick, too). Bullhorns on the amps, and the whole deal. But, boy did they rock. That was the Fandango tour. The second time I saw KISS was the "Destroyer" tour. Same shtick, but a lot slicker. I got bored with them after that. I've always been fond of ZZ Top though. Billy's still one of my favorite guitar players.
Rock n Roll is a show, everyone has their shtick. It's all in the presentation, and getting people to buy records, go to the shows, and buy the swag.
In my band days back in the late Seventies, and early Eighties, our shtick was California redneck rockers. Lots of Southern Rock, Rolling Stones, Allman Brothers Band, Aerosmith, The Who, Blues, and some originals. Our originals were pretty weird, as I look back. Songs with names like "Do You Work On Your Back, At Night," and "Make Way For Fast Freddy." We did a lot of biker parties, which was pretty stupid. But they paid well. Our drummer almost got shot a couple of times.
At one party their was a big HA, who kept demanding we play "Born To Be Wild," every other song. Well, stupid drummer flips him off. Biker pulls back vest to reveal a rather large revolver, and says "Play 'Born To Be Wild." Drummer almost got shot another time for trying to grab ass a biker's "old lady."

Damn drummers, not the smartest lot. I saw kiss on the Rock and roll over tour in 1976. The opening act was graham Parker who from a musical standpoint was light years ahead of kiss. Great show. I was 16 at the time, it was an overwhelming spectacle for me.

Slayer's tour isn't going to be close enough for me, and my son to go see them. Wonder why they have nothing scheduled in Southern California?

I'd catch that if it came close. Testament is a great band, I think Alex Skolnic was the guitar player, wonder if he's still in the band

Hoping for Slayer to add some tour dates closer to where I live. I'm unwilling to drive to Bakersfield, which is their closet show.
