During this pandemic, I have been recording some rough demos for the rest of the band, so if we ever do get a chance to record again, we have plenty of original songs to do.
I use Logic Pro X on a Mac mini with an interface of Focusrite Clarett 2Pre. Plug my guitars straight into the Clarett and record vocals with one of my SM58 mics.
It's been interesting as I am a relative beginner at recording and a complete novice of Logic, although I have been messing about with Garageband for a couple of years.
One other thing is that I am not a singer, so find it hard to sing many of the songs I write. I must be the only Welshman who can't sing!!
Anyway, here's some of mine.
First is about looking at life and relationships
This video is one I put together for a local injustice of a young friend of my granddaughters who lost his life in a road traffic collision.
This one was a live practice of a song, where I stood in for the singer who hadn't arrived. I only did a bit of tweaking of the solo in Logic, as I was using a Strat plugged straight into my amp, so double tracked the solo using a Les Paul. If you have got good hearing, you may notice the keys chap changes from Am to an F too early in the solo. The video is a trip out with my family in the 69/70. My son is now 51 and me and the missus are a lot older

" I must be the only Welshman who can't sing!!"yeah, right ! you did fine. I hate to hear my own voice on a recording. that's why I never moved to Austin, Texas back in the early 80s. I had gotten used to eating regular. ha ha ha who were your models/actors in the first video ? I related to the second video, as I used to ride motorcycles until my accident in 1982.

I pulled the videos from a stock video site pixabay.com I only use the free ones. The bike video was taken by one of the supporters of trying to get justice for the young lad killed

Earlier on in the year, our Guitarist magazine asked people what they were doing in lockdown, so I emailed them with some links to the stuff I had been recording; They really liked one video and put a link to it in the August 2020 edition. They said: John Reardon impressed with this swirling 60s road trip track that recalls The Yardbird's dalliance with pyschedelia and The Doors. It's one of 12 tracks John finished during lockdown showing that the creative mind can wander far, even when it's hard to physically hit the road
The band only made 3 studio recordings in the 60s, after I had left to get married and before they disbanded. Sadly none of the 3 were ever released. Unfortunately the masters had been lost, so these recordings were taken from an acetate, hence they are a bit noisy. I was just sent an mp3, so I did my best to achieve a reasonable sound but I think Guitarist liked the 'old time' sound, Not sure about the Yardbirds and Doors references though

My latest effort is one of mine called Future.
Forgive the voice, but I was trying to master drums and other 'canned' music clips in Logic. As well as trying to sing it, I played all the real instruments, mainly guitars (except the funk/disco ones) and bass.
I used a Hamer Cruise bass and my R9 for the rhythm and solo

John, when did you go in the military ? that had to be around this time also.

Spent most of my time in HQ & MoD, but did do a 3 year posting on a Harrier Sqn in RAF Wildenrath, Germany
