Well, they opened up a new guitar center in anchorage a couple months ago and my wife and I drove in to check it out. Secure in the fact that I would never buy another guitar (Colin) i went in confident I would come out with nothing more then a peddle (shopping delay pedals) and maybe a set of strings and a few picks. I wasn’t in there 10 minutes before I became fixated on this wine red 2019 Gibson studio. The guitar was beautiful with the nitro finish and what caught my eye was the binding on the neck, something you wouldn’t see on earlier studios. I test drove it and the set-up on it was perfect, that was unusual for an out of the box Gibson as well, at least in my experience. It had 2 push-pull pots on it that gave the guitar a more of a fender type tone but had the rich Gibson lp tone otherwise. I put it back on the wall and tried not to look at it as I wandered over to look at delay pedals. I could almost here it calling me as I sat there playing with pedals. Long story short, I bought it. It was priced at 1499, and I got a military discount that knocked it down and they took another 50 off because linette wound up buying some stuff. In the end I paid 1300. I needed another guitar like I needed a hole in the head, that said, I think I’ll keep it. It plays and sounds like a dream and the pull pots are an extremely useful dimension. There was a time you could snag a new studio for 600-700 bucks so it was great to see an increase in quality to go with the price, speaking on the 2019’s anyway. I’ll try to post a pic tonight, if I can get my photobucket to work.

www.amazon.com/photos/shared/_HyPVuQ1TPavFeO-a2rLnA.yytJuTE2-Db9bKxY6M4dKFI think you can see the guitar in the link above, my first shot at Flickr. Anyhow, I hadn’t pulled it out since I bought it last Saturday and when I did I noticed it had no neck binding. What happened was that I googled a demo video on 2019 wine red studios and the one in the vid had neck binding and I remember thinking to myself ”I didn’t notice that on mine but it looked great. I just assumed mine had it to. The guitar in the vid was exactly the same as mine except for the neck binding. I felt like a complete moron when I pulled it out of the case and it did not have any binding on the neck. Anyhow, it’s still a beauty and I played it for hours Saturday night and it sounded great, I really love the pull pots. I researched why some of the 2019s have neck binding and some don’t. As it turned out Gibson made a handful of 2019 studios with neck binding and sold them with hard shell cases. The price as you might expect was much higher. The version I have is the same only no binding and it comes with a semi-soft Gibson case. The case is actually pretty cool, not quite a soft case and not a hard case, I’ll put up a couple pics.
