Today I made a bit of a trek up to Richmond Hill (about 30 minutes north of Toronto) to a large music store up there. The goal was to check out a few guitars I haven't been able to find at the shops I usually frequent. I tried a few guitars with P90s and a few semi-hollows (including a really nice Eastman). Then I sat down to play this Gretsch and I knew it was coming home with me. The neck is a perfect size for me, the setup out of the box is very impressive and I don't think I'll change anything. The bridge is hot and crunches up nicely. I can hear some serious Malcolm Young sounds in there, which I love. What really surprised me was the bluesy sound I was able to get out of the neck through a Mesa amp in the demo room. I'm really stoked to try this with my Traynor on Pure mode. I am currently helping my brother get set up in his new place (well, mostly drinking beers and making suggestions of where to put stuff), but soon I'll be headed home with my new baby to drive my family nuts. The fit and finish on this thing are impressive. I can't find a flaw, so far. It fits in the gig bag that came with my SG as we couldn't find a hard case that fit it at the store, so I'll have to continue my search on that front. Overall, I have to say I am mightily impressed with this new Gretsch. Here are a few quick snaps with the cellphone.

Congrats man, Gretsch makes some great guitars! Time to introduce it to your YGL1! If you want a hard case, L&M usually sell used ones for about $40. Well the Brampton store does, not sure about other locations.

It sounds freakin fantastic through the YGL1. Like...better than my Gibson fantastic (disclaimer: I may be in a state of new guitar euphoria). This guitar is a gem. Man, I'm stoked. I'll check if LM Bloor has anything as I don't feel up to another trek up to Brampton in the near future. Damn, this guitar kicks butt. Holy crap.

Congrats man, I just love those guitars. Thanks. I'm still giddy. For the longest time I slobbered over a black one, single cut at GC. Back then they were going for about 800 bucks. Not sure what they are going for now. Congrats again man, she's a beauty.

At the current exchange rate, it's about $880 USD up here. Given what I've got here, I'm quite satisfied with what I paid.

I know the model. I tried a green one and it was fantastic. The guitar was so damned good that it made me sound competent!

Very Impressive -I picked one up (to play, not buy) yesterday at GC and was very pleased with it's playability. Didn't plug it in, but that probably just saved me money.

congrats !!! happy new guitar day ! those new Gretsch Electromatics are some very good guitars. Gretsch finally got the pickups right on their Electromatics. the ones that they had on the first ones weren't that great. again, congrats ! Thanks. I'm very happy with it. Both pickups have some great sounds. I was initially more interested in the bridge sound, but after spending some time on the neck, it is pretty sweet, too. I was pleasantly surprised when I flipped to the neck at the store and it sounds just as good on my Traynor at home. I haven't had a chance to push the amp too much yet, but I am pleased with things at loud TV volume, so far. Very Impressive -I picked one up (to play, not buy) yesterday at GC and was very pleased with it's playability. Didn't plug it in, but that probably just saved me money. They made a really nice one here. The two pickups seem to offer a great range but also sound good together and the fit and finish on this are also top notch. I looked it over pretty closely and couldn't find anything to complain about on that front. My only minor issues are that it is a touch neck heavy (it doesn't dive, but it does dip a little, although it's still comfortable) and that the bridge tone pot doesn't seem to change the sound too much. That last is at lower volumes, so perhaps I need to open the amp up a bit. Well, those two plus I haven't been able to find a case yet
