I got myself a new microphone. Looking to spend around $100 US, I considered the venerable SM58, but instead went with an Audio-Technica AT2020I know nothing about these things, but research showed me it was a decent, entry level, jack-of-all-trades product. It requires phantom power. I'm hoping that's dealt with by simply enabling 48v power on my interface. (steinberg UR44) Any experience with this piece of gear?

Looks like a nice mic. A-T builds some good stuff... Hell, a lot of companies sell good mics. I have some AKG dynamics that I bought on a dump sale (they were changing the model name & silkscreen so.... I bought four on sale for 20.00 ea... I've tried them side by side with 57/58 and actually think the AKGs curve is better. I like em... Crispier and clearer... I've read revues on many mics and have seen a growing trend away from the extreme high dollar mics.... I have an OLD Shure SM85 that I used waaaay back as my vocal mic on stage... A bud is using it for stuff in his small studio because of the sound compared to his mics... Today, you can't build something that others can't figure out. China/Korea/Indo/Japan/etc. have sharp folks that can analyze and copy anything... A mic just ain't that tough to figure out... Just like guitars, a lot of quality engineers/manufacturers around the world building some great stuff... Sure, it was nice way back when I did theatre sound to open a trunk and pull Neumans out by the handful or open the other and pull out Beyers by the handful, then there were the old EV shotguns from hell, but now you can buy great mics and have money left over for other stuff... You start dropping over a grand a pop for those Neumans and after a couple dozen, you get into some real money... Nice doesn't cost near as much today...

I've taken some time to play with it, and then I plugged in the mic to see how it sounds.
Makes my voice sound like velvet saturated with melted butter.
