I know some of us have some Hollowbody and semi-Hollowbody guitars. Let’s do some guitar porn and show those babies. As you may have read, I just received a new PRS SE Hollowbody Standard for my 65th birthday. Wonderful guitar, sounds great and only weighs 6lbs 1oz. It has laminated mahogany top and back, mahogany neck and a solid block under the bridge for the bridge studs. Otherwise, it has no centre block. Ebony fretboard with bird markers. It’s very small compared to my ES-137. Here are my other “f” holed friends. The Gibson ES-137 Custom, on the left, is a semi-hollow with a laminated flame maple top and back, a mahogany neck and centre block. It weighs in at over 9lbs. It comes with Classic 57 pickups, a varitone selector and gold hardware. It’s quite a good looking guitar and gets me into the 335 sonic area. I’ve left this guitar stock…no upgrades. Did I say that it’s heavy? The white Fender ‘72 Telecaster RI FSR is a cool guitar. One of only 200 made for Long and McQuade. It originally had chicken head knobs for the volume and tone but I changed them out as it’s hard to adjust chickenhead knobs with ones pinky. It’s still pretty much stock except for the aforementioned knobs, the tuners and the pots. Why Fender insists on putting 250k ohm pots with humbuckers escapes me. I upgraded to 500K ohm CTS pots. The reissued tuners sucked as badly as the original ones on my old ‘75 Tele so I replaced them with Kluson Revolutions with a 19:1 ratio. Awesome tuners. Not a true semi-hollow as it has routed cavities in it. It weighs in at 6lbs 3 oz and has been my #1 guitar for the past few years. However, that may all change with the PRS. So, show us your hollow / semi-hollow guitars and tell us a little bit about them.

Here's my main gigging guitar. A Guild X-500 from the 1990's. As you might notice, the electronics have all been replaced- it had 2x humbuckers that have been subbed out with 2x Frailin handwound P-90's. It has a treble bleed circuit and an oversized tone cap to increase bass and reduce high end. It is a wonderful guitar to play- the neck is an absolute joy. The body is very large- 17.5" lower bout. Tone monster! Attachments:

Can’t remember the model (X-150?) but I believe it was a little smaller than yours.

I have a couple more to post when I go downstairs.

I once saw a cool blue burst one advertised for used, but before I could get there it was sold. I'd played others before when I didn't have the cash--and loved them.

And of course I have mentioned my Ibanez AF95 I hadn't bought a guitar for a number of years --just due to stuff going on in life. I started thinking about it when I saw some lower end rest guitars--btu I wanted a biscuit cone, and they didn't seem to be available to lower end guitars or even mid priced ones. So I left looking & started playing semi hollows & full hollow bodies. I used to not like Full iollowbodies--partly due to size & partly due to floating bridges. But the more I tried them , the more I liked them. After trying a variety of guitars -including Ibanez, Epiphone, Hagstrom, and others I found this one, and it just felt right. Even though it has gold hardware, which I had previously avoided --mostly (On my Les Paul it was mostly worn off.) And I preferred the sharper Florentine cutaway, but this one had the rounded Venetian one Funny how that works. I spent a fair bit of time with mine this past weekend.

I remember someone once complaining that the headstock inlay didn't suit a jazz box--but I like it. It's sort of ironic as I am not a fast or flashy player. And here you can really see the woodgrain (It's European maple top, back & sides (& pickguard)-with rosewood of some sort on the tailpiece with inlay on that as well. The finish is called transparent black--which sounds like an oxymoron. But depending not he angle it can look black, dark brown, lots of grain, very little or no grain, etc. I love the look. I liked the look of a bubinga body guitar better--btu this one sounded better--so I bought it.

Only own one hollow body these days. That's a Guild Starfire III I bought in 2017. I was trying to get a Guild that looked & played similar to the Slim Jim I had in the 60s. I did buy a 60s one a few years ago, but it wasn't the same as my old one. The new one, despite having a Bigsby sound very similar to my old one.
My old one in action

Here's the next archtop, a 1963 Guild x-175. Bang stock with original Franz pickups, which are similar to a p-90. Remarkably good shape for a 60 year old guitar. Was my gigging guitar prior to buying the x-500 Attachments:

What I've heard is it is especially a problem with vintage guitars that are kept in cases because gas is released from the old bindings and build up in the cases. This is something I have heard but I can't prove it

Well yes, but this particular guitar sat in a case for many years at a family friend's house where the damage was done. He didn't play it for many years and gave it to me. I've kept it in case he ever wants it back, which I doubt

I'm hoping that he posts some pictures. here I am, Rob. been working a lot of days straight in a row. 12:30 to 9pm shift. this week coming up, I'm working 5 days in a row. sometimes while at work, I sneak on here and look around.
the 2006 Caddy Green Duo Jet is considered a semi-solid body. the body is mahogany, but routed for the pickups and switches. however, it's not as heavy as my '75 Les Paul.
my first guitar is my 1959 Gretsch Anniversary Model. by owning this one, it's very hard for me to justify buying another hollow body guitar such as a White Falcon.

I didn't see it on the website. just click on the image to make it larger.
