My baby - 2003 Gibson Historic Reissue R9. Custom Rewind Crème Brûlée pickups, R S Guitarworks wiring harness. It sounds exactly how I want it. It's amazing how such a pretty guitar can sound so mean. For awhile I called it Hook, as a loving reference to my dad who was a Korean War amputee. He had his left hand blown off by a grenade booby trap. ![Lester R9](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v164/zippythetroll/Lester4.jpg)

That's a beauty!
I'll try to get a shot of my new 2015 B-stock LP 100 Deluxe up soon.
It's not pretty like a burst, but it's the first LP I've had in a while that really satisfies me soundwise.
It's got coil split alnico mini-humbuckers, and a boost circuit so it can still do the big humbucker LP sound.
I like that it has enough range so that combined with my tube amp I can roll off volume and split coils for clean, then on the fly kick the amp into grinding overdrive just from the guitar controls.

Well, here's a preliminary shot from a server I've since moved on from. ![](http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/150x100q90/661/IAwDSY.jpg) I'll get a better (bigger) shot up when I can. Likely tomorrow.

Nope. Not working. I'll try again.

I love my R9. Makes me feel like a rock star. I like the bigger neck it has. My Tele has a great neck, too, and the compound radius is really cool. I think Caleb's Epi is great. Being a starting player today, a kid can get a great guitar for a decent price.

Only played one R9, and it was a decent guitar. Was in Mass Street Music yesterday and played a used R0 that had been aged. It was used and supposedly a special edition, but nice as it was I thought $6300 was an out to lunch price. My Artisan has the 60s neck so I really enjoyed the way it played, and the aging was really well done so that it looked and more importantly felt at home in my hands.
Your guitar is considerably more lovely.

I added my own dent. I really never understood the idea of relicing guitars.

In antiquing the term is 'distressing'. Something I actually refused to do a few times when requested to do so, as I thought the customer (dealers) were trying to foist off a counterfeit. But I did do so for interior designers a few times or homeowners who wanted reproductions to match an existing setting.
So...Catfish is Lefty. Rizla obviously Sid. Everybody else has their known handle?

Awesome to play, this is the only custom I will ever buy so I will keep it forever. I already have a special w/p90's and a 50's trib with a bigsby, so my next purchase of an lp, if it ever happens, will be the gold top standard. The lp I always wanted.

There's just something about Les Paul guitars. I wanted one as soon as I saw a picture of Jimmy Page playing one in 1969. My R9 is my dream guitar. Way above my pay grade, but who cares. I love neck, it's pretty big, and took awhile to get used to playing. I can play it for hours. Now mind you, I'm a wimp and use Super Slinkys.

Using 9's doesn't make you a wimp. Hell, 10's aren't much worse on your fingers than 9's are, just your preference, no big deal. Now, where you can feel it is going to 11's, I did that for a while. Not only is getting your guitar set-up for them a big pain in the ass but they just trashed my fingers until I got used to them.

I've been playing 9s since I started playing electric guitar. I've tried 10s, just not my cup of tea. I don't like to fight my guitar. I tried 8s once. That was like playing with spaghetti.

I used to like to fight my Fenders a little. Very intense sound when you bend up on 25.5" scale length. I am an old man losing hand strength now. 9's are fine! I just made it through rehearsal Tues, gig Thurday, Biker Church Saturday, and regular church today, and my hands are actually OK ( 9's and Aleve, baby)! I'm encouraged! Usually just playing once or twice a week has me rubbing arthritis gell into my thumbs! Yay 9's!

This is probably a stupid thing for me to do right out of the gate at a new site... but nonetheless I shall say:
Never understood those who equate tensile physical strength with "masculinity" (or any other quality, really) to begin with.
I should add here that a person might have sufficient hand strength to squeeze an iron ingot so hard it comes oozing out from between his fingers like putty-- but it still doesn't mean he can play guitar.
I don't think I ever watched a great player in performance and wondered what gauge strings he uses.
Not speaking here of any company who is present (that I'm aware of), but I'm generally unimpressed by most of the stuff that I see being commonly cited as some big designation of manhood.
My pet gorilla is a female, and she could easily peel me like I was a banana. But I still don't see her as being "more of a man" than me!

Alrighty then. I've had 5 Lesters so far. First was a '71. Goldtop Standard, a '54 RI. Bought new. Then a Ebony Epi LP Standard and a 30th AnniversaryDeluxe, sparkle blue. Then a 20th Anniversary Gibson Custom..Ronsonized..with Schaller Golden '50s. Now I have a '71 Gibson Black Beauty that was also stripped and naturalized in the '70s. Everything stock except the Schaller tuners (standard upgrade from wafflebacks in the '70s) and a Tim Shaw paf at the bridge.
